July 29th

For the few boats going out, fat flounder are filling the coolers with 5 and 6 lb flats but it isn't easy, they're having to work for 'em.  We've seen 8 and 10 lb flounder from locals who aren't in the tournament and didn't want citations.  I know with the economy and fuel prices, a lot of folks just aren't going out but the fish have turned on the bite.  I've had reports of trout and rock being caught near 14' and trigger, spades, and flats have been caught from Mohawk Site #6 and 7.  Hell, there's even been flats caught from the surf, from 14" to nearly 4 lbs!  The whole Anchorage area has produced flounder croaker and sea bass and I'm itching to get out there for some cobia!.  The local tog haven't been bitingbut I think the bay temp is too warm right now.

You all know that Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle did not sell.  I've scaled back on the bigger parts of the operation.  We will continue to carry minnows, eels, green crabs, fresh bunker, and blue claw crabs.  Keep it simple and small and stocked perfect for the DE Bay Fisherman.  As for my absenteeism-damnit, I just couldn't continue to do all the shit I was doing.

July 25th

Tom reports his business and property did not sell at auction on Saturday, the 24th and he will remain open for business as usual.  Health issues were the reason for the auction, the physical work is too demanging.  Tom has scaled back on his live bait but will continue to offer live eel, green crab, regular, and jumbo minnows.  Blue claw crabs will also still be available. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle will continue to carry all of your fishing needs and supply the best top quality bait at reasonable prices.  Operating hours will be Mon-Trs 6a-5p and Fri-Sun they will open at 5a and close at 6p.

Croakers have moved into our area, as well as spot, blues, triggerfish, and kingfish.  Chris and Linda Lay fished east and south of G Buoy coming ashore with 3 keeper flats with 1 blue and reporting 4 throwbacks .  Cherry Wright and Todd Sauer fished Site #6, landing 4 keeper flats in the 21-23 1/2" range and 1 sea bass.  Capt. Bob Sanderson, Henry Miller, Jerry, Paul and Harvey Troyer fished Site #7, coming ashore with 8 flounder and 1 blue.  Capt Nick and Jamie of Choptank 18 had 6 keeper flats from Site #6 and Nomore Capt. Dennis had 2 keeper flounder from Site #6.  Curt came ashore with 1 spot and 15 blues while fishing a  wreck site.

Toby Miller is still in the lead in their annual non-profit flounder tournament.  Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle still offers camper rental for overnight and extended stays.  There are 2 RV spaces available for both permenant and short term.  Boat space is also available for seasonal and year round storage.

July 24, 2010  AUCTION UPDATE

The business didn't sell and we are gonna be open as usual.  I just need to simplify things.  We will continue to provide you with all of your fishing needs !

July 18th  Weekly Fisherman Report

Tom regrets to inform his customers and readers of his decision to auction Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle.  Because of health reasons, he has no other options.  He and Trudy have enjoyed assisting vacationers and local anglers.  Tom enjoys sharing his knowledge of the DE Bay and is happy to help anyone put fish in their boat.  Trudy will continue to make rigs for area tackle shops and her customers.  This week, leading up to the action on the 24th, they will be offering all inventory at huge discounts including all Ritchie compass, Storm lures, Spro, Sabo, and all bucktails and jigs at 50% off.  Cedar Creek Bait and Tackles offers a very profitable business with awesome views of the DE Bay, Mispillion River, and Cedar Creek.  It's the perfect business opportunity with the perfect location for a waterfront home.  Business and home encompass 1.8 acres with 192' waterfront.

Bill Lingenfelter and Ken Simmens fished Site #6, coming ashore with 1 keeper 23" flounder and reporting 6 throwbacks.  On Friday, John Jackson had 1 keeper tog from Brandywine.  10 year old Matthew Lawson came ashore with 1 flounder from Site #6, caught on squid and minnow and reporting a small 10" trout caught on squid.  Capt John Walter, of One More Drift, fished with his dad, John Walter, Sr and Chris Weigner at Site #7 and Brandywine.  Father and son each boated a flat and John put a 16" trout in the boat at Brandywine, caught using a chartreuse Gulp! 4" swimmin mullet.

July 07  After all the hard work I've put into this place, I'm kind of dreading the 24th.  I just learned the state plans to begin renovating the boat ramp.  A new 8 lane concrete boat launch ramp that's going to be 80' wide by 172' long, 5 new floating piers, 1 floating dock 10'wide x 40' long.  Imagine the ease of launching here when it's finished; no lines, no beach traffic.

I went out for a few hours yesterday and we came in with a some nice flats and I'm out again today

July 4th
During the week, the wind kept most anglers on shore.  Three digit days turned on the flounder bite.  The Beach Ball, reef sites, F&G Buoy, Crossover, Flounder Alley, and Brown Shoal  produced some nice flats along with a mix of small spanish macherel and ling.  They also received a phone report of triggerfish and sheepshead from in and around a wreck near Miah Maull.
Steven Story of the Story Teller had 2 keeper flats from Site #6, largest weighing 5.2 lbs.  Barry Carl came ashore with 3 keeper flounder, 2 at 19" and 1 at 20" just east of F Buoy with 3 throwbacks ranging from 14-18".  There were reports of ling and 8 keeper flounder from 60' Slough.  Bob Sanderson of Some Guy and Toby Miller, Glenn Murray, and Conrad Lesnewsky had 8 keeper flounder with 4 throwbacks in 3.5 hours while fishing Site #7.  Capt Keith Blakefield of the Flat Ugli reported 10 throwbacks and had 1 keeper flat with son Kallen Brakefield being high hook with 6.02 lbs while fishing in 19' water at the Broadkill Slough.  Chip Kelly, Bill Yeager, and Roy Peters fished Starsite #8 and came in with 6 keeper flats.  Richard Snyder had 1 keeper from Site #6.  The 'Some Guys' were at it again on Saturday-Capt Bob and Toby Miller were joined by Dave Miller and Jeffrey King.  The group reported 12 throwback flounder with 7 keepers from Site #6.  Mark and Sam Piascik had 2 keepers from the Mohawk with 12 throwbacks.  Florentino Garcia boated a 3.52 flat from Site #6 and Josh Andrew reported 5 throwbacks with 1 3.02 keeper.

July 01  The flounder bite has been decent by those anglers who have  knowledge of our local reef sites.  Croakers are here and they're always a hit for the family.  There's nothing like seeing a kids' face light up when they reel in their first big catch!  The shark have moved in and this weekend the weather's gonna be wonderful-lots of sunshine!

June 23. We are seeing some nice flounder coming in.  Over the weekend the water temp was 67 at 30 feet.  These hot days should change that and when it does the action will turn on bigtime. Randy would be in first place in our summer long flounder tourny, but his wife caugh not only the biggest flat, but all the flounder yesterday until the wind kicked up.

June 26th

Tom at Cedar Creek reports that as of last weekend the water temp at 30' was only 69 degrees.  But after the 3 digit days we've had, the water temp this weekend was up to 74.  The guys fishing and knowing how to work reef sites 5, 6, and 7 came ashore with limit catches.  Others not experienced in structure fishing didn't fare as well.  The bite is on and the temps are right and if the weather permits, we will be seeing coolers with more limit catches.  The inshore wrecks are providing large numbers of keeper Sea Bass from charters with parties of six.  Spot are being caught and the numbers are increasing daily.  The Hard Heads are in and you guys that like Shark fishing should know that 200-300 pounders are only 1 mile out of our inlet starting this week.  So…gear up, and while you're at it sign up for our Non-Profit Flounder Tournament, help save a life and win up to $1000.00 at the same time.  First place changed again today with Toby Miller weighing in a 5.4 lb fat flattie.  There are large amounts of flukes on the wrecks and reef sites so grab your poles and beat that number.  This upcoming weekend will be excellent fishing as they're all here now; shark, croakers, hard heads, spot, blues, sea bass and maybe even some trigger and spades in the mix.  Gear up and get ready, join our tournament and with the croakers in even the kids will get hooked on fishing as the croakers will keep everyone happy and occupied.  Bring the family and make the Fourth a fun family fishing holiday.

Weekly Catches;

Stephen South, site 5, 3 keeper flukes approximately 20", 3 throwbacks.  Linden Felter, site 6, 2 keeper flounder with 4 throwbacks.  Capt. Randy Bilbrough had his wife Brenda show him the proper technique to the art of flounder fishing by landing a 4.2 pounder, 1 throwback, a shark and a skate.  Grandpop Huk out fished his son and grandson on site 6 with a nice size keeper and 3 throwbacks.  Mark Stover fished site 7, landed a 20 1/4" flounder, threw 7 back, then caught a dogfish and a cracker.  Capt Bob Sanderson took Toby Miller, Danny Thomas and Sherry Troyer out on the Some Guy, they landed 11 keepers at site 7 while Toby hooked a 5.4 pounder for first place in our Flounder Tournament.

June 17. the flounder fishing is turning on.  When guys are comming in there just short of there limit.  The fisherman working the reef sites are filling their coolers, no hard heads yet but a few stripers being caught and the bay is full of snapper blues, bring some light tackle and have some fun during slow time.  Sorry about the non or slow reports computer problems.

June 20th.

At  Cedar Creek, Tom reports;

The fish catch was lower than the usual.  Between the winds we had last week and the fact that the water temp this weekend was only 69 degrees, so the flounder counts that came in were low, if any.  The guys anchoring and working the reef sites fared well, everything else seems to have been 2 - 3 keepers per vessel and a lot of people were coming in empty.  Two more days of hot weather will bring the temp up and the coolers should start filling up!  There are a lot of stripers moving South, but I can't give exact locations due to the winds last week.   Tom is selling eels for $1.00 each hoping everyone will dead stick a rod, and your chances of hooking a nice striper are excellent.

Fish catch this week;

Bob Sanderson, Capt of Some Gye landed a 3.9 flattie, Toby Miller 4.1 lb on squid and minnows at reef site 7.  They both fished site 7 later in the week and had 4 keepers with 9 throw backs.  Bill Yeager and Chip Kelly, fishing from the Abbrakadabra landed 3 fluke; 23", 21" and 19" form site 7.  Tim Comegy had a 22", 3.2 lb fluke from site 6 with 2 throw backs.

June 5.  The flounder fishing in the bay is really starting to take off. Jigging on the reef sites seems to be the most productive.  The bay is also filled with tons of schooly snapper blues.  So if you want to have a lot of fun bring a light rod with you and during slow periods you can play with the snapper blues. On May 30th Captain Butch and Franny brought in two drum, one weighting 42.7 pounds and another at 67.7 pounds.  They also released another 8.  They were using bay clams.  Captain Artleach and Brain Artleach brought in a 45.6 pound drum from the coral beds.  Captain Dave Toomey brought in a 83 pound Drum caught on bay clams. Harry Miller landing the drum.  Robert Britt bought in a 15.8 pound striper from the oyster beds. Captain Rick Aument hooked into and landed a 71.6 pound Drum on 20 pound test line.  Captain Peters, Chip Kelly came in twith a 4.7 pound flounder between F Bouy and the Mohawk Wreck with three keeps and f5 to 6 throw backs.  On June 3rd Joe Huk fishing on the Fish Huk when Sam Messina and Todd Zimmerman brought in two drum one about 30 pounds and one at 17 pounds from the Coral Beds.  Marvin Albright caught 2 keeper flouder and had 4 throw backs from reef six.  Frank Finny caught fishing reef site 6 caught a 19 1/2 and a 21 1/2 flounder with 2 throw backs on squid and minnows.  Joe and Penny Litner fishing site 6 brought in a 20" founder.  George and Bruce Summers also caught one keeper flounder about 20".

Don't forget to sign up for our flounder tourament and help save a life.

June 12.  The few fishable days we've had were good.  We're seeing some stripers and rock coming through, caught drifting with eels at the rip line at Brown Shoal.  The Flounder action has been slow for most, but good to excellent for those that know how to work the reef sites.  Sign up now for our summer long, non-profit, Save a Life Flounder Tournament.  It's tax deductible and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place has changed six times this week.  The bay is also filled with snapper blues, so be sure to bring some light tackle and have some fun when fishing is slow.  The croakers and hard-heads should be arriving in about a week to ten days.  Don't forget, we also have boat storage and two rental RV's year round.  There are also seasonal spaces open that won't last long.  Once again we apologize for the lack of weekly report updates as we are still having computer issues.  This is being worked and should be corrected by Tuesday so look for updates and the most accurate fishing report for the Delaware Bay.  Shark fisherman!  Get ready....  they're a little late but when the hard-heads arrive they will be about a mile out of our inlet and in the 200-300 lb range.  Give Tom a call for all the details.......

June 4  sorry about the late update lots of computer problems the flounder are in and we had 2 more drum come in from the coral bedstpday by joe huk . full report tommorrow.

MAY 29 WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT

Believe it or not the drum are spawning late and will probably be here for more than two weeks and believe me, I have seen my share.  Now the good news:  Flounder are hot and heavy.  They're fat and 18.5 is not even a problem.  This year we're having another squid spawn in the bay and the fat fluke are laying on the edge of the drop off at "F" buoy and in and around "G" buoy.  We're seeing limit catches with reports of only 2-3 throwbacks.

Even though I love drum fishing, you can only clean, look at, and weigh so many, and the amount coming in is unreal.  Our Drum Tournament has only 3 days left and its only $20.00 to sign up.  Currently, the heaviest is 89.1 pounds in first place.  We have seen and weighed 93.8, 92, 88, 80, and 79 pounders.  First place is $500, second place is $300 and third is $200.  Ninety-five percent of these fish were caught by first-timers.  So, sign up and help save a life for the American Cancer Society at the same time.

MAY 16 WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the winds kept everyone on shore and the few that braved the wind returned wet within an hour.  ‘Massachusetts Bob’ Barsalou and family came to Slaughter Beach for black drum fishing.  Unfortunately, they were blown out every day except the last 2.  Those last 2 days were well worth the trip, proving that anyone who puts in a little effort can catch black drum.  Bob, Walter Southard, Joe Widecki, and Bill Booth came ashore with a total of 7 for both days with Bob being high hook with a 56.3 lb citation, the remaining catches were between 18-25 lbs.  On Saturday, many anglers who fished during the day, on the outgoing tide didn’t do very well; the incoming tide seems to be the ticket but that could change tomorrow.  Fish were being read during both tides and slack tide but they would only turn on at the end of slack tide and beginning of the incoming.  Tom was busy cleaning and filleting fish for his customers into the early morning hours, finishing at 1:30a.  He was told of a couple huge drum breaking the hook, NOT the line.  Always use quality hooks when fishing for these monster black drum.  Tom reccommends octopus, Mustad, and Gamakatsu.  Don’t buy your hooks at a flea market, it’s not worth the loss.  Tom received a call from Capt Dave Russell of the Miss Shyanne Saturday evening, who already had a couple on board.  The flounder bite is starting to turn on at Reef Site #6, #7, and the Brown Shoal.  White perch fishing is excellent in the tidal rivers with bloodworms and grass shrimp being the bait of choice.  They received reports of 2 rockfish being landed from Collins Beach; hooked while drifting eels.  The crab run is just beginning.

Capt. Mike Cathell fished with Mark Zawada, and Fred “Beaver” Ruff fished reef sites, boating a keeper flounder before heading to the Coral Beds for drum.  The boat brought home 3, all in the 25 lb range and released 3, reporting a couple of break-offs.  Capt Tom, fishing from his vessel, The Sea Wench, was joined by Pat Morini and Joe Noble fishing the Coral Beds for drum action.  Pat landed a 24.4 lb drum, with the boat bringing in 4.  Capt. Ralph Serago and Joe Abbott fished the Coral Beds, coming in with a black drum weighing 22.9 lbs.  Capt. Duane Bowman of The Fuss fished Site #6, hooking into a keeper flat using only a minnow.  Ed Yeatman weighed in a 76.2 lb drum with a 52” girth while fishing with Capt Brent Logullo, Bob Minio, and Eddie Yeatman.  The boat brought in 2 other smaller drum in the 20 lb range.  Capt Rick Bortz, spent Saturday evening fishing with daughter Stacy Irvine, grandson Hunter Aaron, son-in-law John Irvine, and granddaughter Morgan Wells.  Hunter boated a 17.5 lb drum, John boated a 22.5 and a25.8 lb, and Morgan helped pull the fish into the boat.  Capt. Steve Andrew, fishing from his vessel, Skates Brat, boated his first drum while fishing the Coral Beds with Sandy Sekcienski.  Capt Ryan and Debbie Baer of the Baer Necessity and Chuck Pilkerton fished the Coral Beds.  Debbie not only caught her first drum, she boated ALL their drum of the night, coming ashore with her limit; 12, 26, and 30 lbs.  Darrell Walters fished Site #6, releasing 3 short flounder; a 17” and 2 16 ½”.  Tom also had the opportunity to briefly talk with a gentleman visiting from California who reads his fishing reports and frequently visits his website.  The trio came ashore with 2 drum.  If that gentleman reads this, please, give Tom a call or send him an email, he wants to talk to you again!

Their 1st drum tournament is going well.  They saw a 70+ lb drum but the angler wasn’t in the tournament.  Entry fee is just 20.00; anyone can win this.  Don’t forget to sign up early and save 10.00 in their 4th Annual Non-profit, Summer-long “Fight a flounder” for Cancer Tournament.  Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle offers 2 RV for the serious angler wishing to be on the water within minutes.  Prices are very reasonable, for little as $50.00 a night.  If you want them to guarantee your surf clams for a weekend trip, you MUST place your order by noon on Tuesdays as supplies are limited.  They also carry jumbo and regular minnows, eels, peeler crabs, and live spot will be available soon.  If the weather cooperates, we’ll all have a great fishing weekend!  See their latest catches and read the latest Delaware Bay fishing reports at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com

MAY 14  Saw about a dozen black drum last night.  Bob Barsalou weighed in a citation 56.3 lb. with the boat bringing in a total of 6.  Mike Cathell and Fred Ruff fished Site #6 for flounder before heading to the Coral Beds.  Mike boated a keeper flat and they had great success at the Beds, releasing 3, bringing in 3, and losing 3.  I fished the beds with Pat Morini and Joe Noble.  Joe got skunked but Pat landed a 24.4 lb and I landed 1.  The bite's on!

MAY 09  WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the drum are in thick and feeding just 3 miles out their inlet.  Drum fishing for these monsters can be done by the least experienced angler.  Call in advance for surf clams if you want them guaranteed for your trip.  The drum tournament is taking off so be sure to sign up before going out; a 20.00 entry fee could win you 500.00.  It seems as if every year, a newbie catches the heaviest fish.  There is a big misconception that drum fishing is done at night.  All the drum they’ve seen so far this year were caught in the morning and afternoon.  Night fishing will also produce excellent catches.   The flounder bite is starting, they’ve seen a few from the Beach Ball, Coral Beds, and Brown Shoal.  The rockfish have moved up north and the tog fishing is excellent.

Last Sunday, Capt. Melvin Wanger of the Flounder Pounder fished with Ben Neff and Brian Yoder using green crab at Site #6 coming ashore with keeper male tog.  Rick Bortz came ashore with tog from Site #7 and 14’ Light.  Mike Cathell Sr and Jr came ashore with black drum from the Coral Beds using surf clams on the incoming tide.  Fred and Robert Gentry fished Site #7 on the 4th and 7th, coming in with their limit each trip.  Capt. Bob Goracci of the Well Done fished the end of the outgoing tide when he hooked and landed his first drum in the 30 lb range using surf clams at the Coral Beds.  Mark Lillquist fished the Coral Beds in 20’ water near the end of the incoming tide using frozen clam, coming ashore with a 35 lb drum.

Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle is conveniently located next to the states’ largest public boat launch with the easiest access to 75% of  Delaware Bay ‘s best fishing areas.  Tom stocks only the freshest bait and offers a large variety of fresh, live and frozen baits for all of your fishing needs, including the largest squid selection in Delaware.  They carry a full line of rods and reels, from the inexpensive to the elite including St. Croix rods and Daiwa Saltist reels.  They are a Penn Gold Dealer and a Shimano Top Shelf Dealer.  They have 2 RV’s available, one sleeps 6, one sleeps 4, for as little as $50.00 a night.  Save 10.00 and sign up early for their non-profit flounder tournament.  Once the flounder tournament begins on June 1st, sign up is $35.00.

Blue claw and soft shell crabs are available; get your crabs at wholesale prices; their freshness cannot be beat.  You purchase your crabs the same day they come out of the water at ½ the cost of retail store prices.

MAY 05  THEY'RE HERE

Drum are here thick and they're taking bait.  I weighed in 5 today, the largest weighed a nice 69.2 lbs with a 40" girth and was 48 1/2" long.  5 broke off, one must have been 90 lbs.  Jason Dupler, Tike Albright, Marvin Albright fished the Coral Beds using frozen surf clams on the incoming tide.

MAY 04  BLACK DRUM DONATIONS

For the 2nd year,we've assisted the state in its black drum research program.  The fish are measured, sexed, and a small triangular cut is made in the head to remove the otolith(ear bone) to determine age.  We then donate these fish to local charities in the nearby communities.  Well, we just received nearly 700 lbs of black drum!  Let the show begin!

MAY 04      BREAKING NEWS!

Just received a report from Capt. Dave of the Miss Shyanne this morning  reporting to us that 4 black drum have been caught on hook and line and he will be targeting them this weekend! I don't want everyone to get over anxious but this weekend ought to be the start of it!  Reserve your clams and bring in a big one!

MAY 01 WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the tog bite is strong.  On Saturday, in the later part of the afternoon, folks were coming in for more green crabs then going back out, they’re tearing them up.  It looks like the stripers have migrated up north.  The black drum are starting to show up in the nets so keep an eye on their reports, Tom will be out trying to locate them.

Dave Thompson was fishing off Fowler Beach on Friday and hooked a 17” flounder on squid.  Donna Riland brought in the first flounder of the 2010 season while fishing with Bob Wagner and husband Ronald Riland aboard their vessel, Buddy Bear.  Travis McCurry, Victor McCurry, and Robert Taylor came ashore with their limit on tog from Site #6 and the Mohawk.  Their action came during the beginning of both incoming and outgoing tide change.  George and Bruce Summers fished Site #7, releasing numerous females and 4 keeper tog.  Capt. Jamey Cursi and Ernie Pala came ashore with their limit on tog from Site #6.  They reported the bite was steady during slack tide and slow moving tide changes but the bite shut down when the tide was running strong.  Ernie was high hook, weighing in an 8.0 lb tog with a 22 ¾” length from Site # 6 using green crab.

April 02, 2010

Yesterday Henry Boyd and I fished NE of the 14' Light in 13' of water using clams and Spro bucktail jigs.  We stopped counting at 68 fish.  I have fished the DE Bay for nearly 40 years and the ONLY thing that has EVER come close to the action we had yesterday was about 14 years ago; there were 3 of us on the boat and 37 rock were hooked.  The stripers were so thick, you could walk on 'em, the gannets and gulls were dive bombing the water and we were the only boat in sight, except for about 8 commercial vessels!    Everyone fishing the Miah Maull and Tussy Slough in 13-17' water destroyed the rock ranging from 20-35 lb range using bay clams, surf clams, Spro bucktails, and diamond jigs.  TIME TO GO FISHING!

March 06, 2010 STRIPERS, TOG, AND MONSTER BLACK DRUM

IS everyone else as psyched up as I am, dying to get out and go fishing?

Right around the corner is striper and tog then the phenomenally large black drum begin to arrive.  Even with small wind chop and slop, any vessel can safely and comfortably fish the beds.  As a matter of fact, on the right day, Frank Malinsky plans to fish for black drum from his kayak.  Once again, our largest fish weighed last year was caught by Eddie Jones and weighed 80.7 lbs.  Drum fishing popularity has really increased in the last 4 years or so, thanks to me and my big mouth!  I've enjoyed catching these monsters for years and so will you.  All you need is a little patience, the right bait, and chum.  Get your chum going, put your rods out, and set your clickers.  Then sit back with a cold drink and wait for your rod to start clicking.  You may even hear the "drumming" of theses monsters under your boat.

Here's a short video of the drum fishing we can look forward to, these are just babies.

January 29, 2010

Art Meding and I were both feeling Cabin Fever and started talking about fishing.  One thing led to another and the next thing you know, I'm calling an old friend of mine.  Allen Shin, owner of Miss Belmar, whose family has had this fleet have been in business at least since I was a kid, I've fished on their boats since I was 7!  He said there were a few openings for 24 hour cod trips but they were traveling all the way to Montauk by boat.  They're sailing daily for mackerel and on the previous day, Wednesday, they did well.  Art and I were onboard yesterday when they sailed.  I was shocked at how close to shore we were when we made our first stop and drop.  As soon as we got our lines in the water, we were hammering the macks.  When the bite slowed we motored 10-20 miles out and began hammering 'em again.  I had 7 hooks on with a diamond jig on the bottom, Art had 6 hooks on with a diamond jig on bottom.  Only once did we each come up with every hook loaded with a mack.  Overall we had steady action all day long.  We landed about 200 macks, the pics are posted on our new Fish Pics 2010 page.  There were a few guys cutting up sushi.  After taking this picture, I was offered some.  If you know me then you know I HAD to try it and so did Art.  While it wasn't really bad, it isn't something I'd order when eating sushi.

During the winter months, if anyone wants to escape and bear the cold weather, I'm going to add a few links for boats who schedule trips and whose vessels provide the best bet if you don't mind the long ride.

missbelmar.com  Belmar, NJ booking now for 24 hour offshore cod and sailing daily for mackerel until they disappear.

jamaicaii.com  Brielle, NJ   Board the Jamaica II for offshore cod, haddock, ling

vikingfleet.com  Montauk, NY A long road trip for us in Delaware, it's almost 7 hours from Lewes but it's a short boat ride to catch the fish. I recommend the Viking Star for cod, ling, haddock, and hake

bigfishcharters.com  Green Harbor, MA  If you board the Bigfish II(6 person, private charter), be prepared to make room in your freezer; I've always came home with no less than 200 lbs of cod filet with plenty of monkfish and wolffish in the mix.  This trip is as close to a guarantee as you can get.  It's a long car ride but if you want actioin and meat, this trip is for you.  HUGE cod, wolffish, pollock, and monkfish.  They advertise halibut but I've been going up there for 25 years and have yet to see halibut.

 January 16, 2010

About a dozen boats went out today and I caught up with 2 at the ramp.  One boat had 4 guys and 3 nice rock.  My guess, in the 19-25 lb range.  1 on frozen herring and 2 on eel.  The other boat had 2 guy coming in with 12 tog saying they could of had their limit but  the rest were all shorts.  Carl stopped by to say hello, he's been fishing out of Lewes whenever the weather permits adn was goign out tomorrow saying since the second week in Dec, he and his fishing partner have landed 11 keeper stripers.

JANUARY 03, 2010

Hey guys starting in April we have the big rock/stripers, sometimes big giant early flounder, tog, and then everyone starts looking forward to the big black drum season that's just outside our inlet.  Last year we saw so many beautiful drum come in.  Some nights I was up until 3a weighing in and cleaning drum.  Whether you are new at this or an experienced drum fisherman- it doesn't matter; a few numbers from me and the freshest and best bait available-you'll put fish in the box, no experience necessary! And YES, 95 % of the time, the tail's will be sticking out of it.  One of our regular customers, Joe Huk, was in the Fisherman Dreamboat Challange with his 76.7 lb black drum.

We've had many requests so this year we're having a black drum tournament, the first ever for our state!  With conservation in mine, we invite anyone, as in previous years, to bring their fish in to be weighed.  If you don't want it for your family, we will gladly accept them and pass them onto local charities and organizations including the veterans Home of the Brave.  We are also involved with black drum research programs.

Entry fee is 20.00 per person.  Prizes are determined by weight and will awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places.

1st  Place prize is $500.00

2nd  Place prize is $300.00

3rd  Place prize is $200.00
