5 minute live video of black drum being hooked and landed in DE Bay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy13LSCo4hw
Here is a video of a few guys in search of shark action on Aug, 13th.Tom had a couple people go off Big stone
and they were disappointed. So he got on the horn with all his commercial buddies and found out where the
sharks were destroying their nets. Cedar Bush is holding the biggest for this late in the season. When they came in
to give me the report I asked for pictures and they told me they did a short video. It is not that good but it is on the link above.
They hooked 2 10'-12' sand tigers and 1 brown/sand bar.
DEC 06 Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 120509
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom, Judy, and Trudy are preparing to close for the season. They would like to wish everyone a joyous holiday and a prosperous new year. They’re looking forward to Fishing Season 2010, their 4th annual summer flounder tournament, and are planning a big surprise for black drum anglers.
Capt. Stan Smith of the Cindy Sue II fished the rips at Brown Shoal, waited for all the boats in the area to leave, and then boated an 11 lb striper. Ryan Baer came ashore with a gator blue while fishing near Site #6. Rick Bortz fished the wall on the 29th, landing 2 stripers while trolling red and white stretch 25’s. He also came ashore with 3 tog while using green crab. John and Rob Koniewicz, and Danny Conicello were fishing Brandywine when Danny boated a 22.66 lb striper with a 22” girth. Ernie Stone also came ashore with a striper from the Brown Shoal. Ron Ringer, fishing from the surf on Conquest Road, hooked into a 15” flounder, big blues in the 30-35” range, and a 40” striper. John Koniewicz went out again on Dec 04; fishing at Brandywine with bunker when he hooked into and boated a big blue on a bunker head. Ken Kirk was chunking bunker when he hooked into a 14.4 lb striper with a 17” girth.
Author Ed Gertler, who travels the bay by kayak, was preparing for the final leg of his journey, when he visited Tom’s store. His book, MD and DE Canoe Trails, in its 5th revision, is filled with his jaunts in MD and DE, including the DE Bay. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle has seen an increase in kayak-fisherman and extends an invitation for all kayakers who wish to explore the Mispillion River and Cedar Creek to stop in.

Check out their latest catches and read an up-to-date fishing report at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com
NOV 15
We had a handful of boats go out today. The bay was calm and the weather was cooperative, no wind and no rain! Cedar Creek Boat Launch faired well during Nor'Ida; reports were the bay was clean and the ramps are the same. Capt. Danny and Ryan Blevins fished the Brown Shoal today and boated a 32" striper on eel. Greg Carson, fishing with Capt. Aaron Shirey of the vessel "Release" hooked into and landed an 18.9 lb striper with a 20 1/2" girth that was 38 1/2" long. They were fishing for tog at Site #7 using my hermit crabs on a tog rig! I guess even a striper can't resist a tasty morsel
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 111409
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports before the storm, tog and rock were hot, hot, hot; there’s no reason they shouldn’t be now. On Sunday, several boats went out, check their website, www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com to read who were successful and where they hooked ‘em. Tom even traveled to Long Island so that everyone would have fresh bunker.
Jim Schlessman and Joe Gierschick fished the Mohawk on Sunday, Nov 08, coming ashore with 12 tog. Jim was high hook with 6.44 lbs. Mark Lillquist boated an 8.1 lb tog using hermits, coming ashore with his limit, most in the 4 lb range from the Mohawk and Site #4. Robert Krise and Karl Friess were fishing Brown Shoal when Robert landed a citation 20.5 lb striper on a bunker head. Tony Tomme came ashore with a 3.04 lb flounder while striper fishing at the Brown Shoal using bunker. Joe, Chris, and Zak Huk fished Brandywine for tog using green crab and hermits. Zak lost a big one using hermits, snapping his line as it pulled his hermit into the rocks. Itchy released all his tog, except one and they released all the females, coming ashore with 12. Capt. Stanley Smith of the Cindy Sue II and John Green fished Site #7, coming ashore with 14 tog. John weighed in a citation 7.2 lb tog caught on a hermit. Gene Heyman had 3 hits on stripers from Brown Shoal; two on eel and one on clam and hooked into tog from Site #7. Capt. Gene Volz released 2 shorts from 60’ Slough. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle will be open on Thanksgiving Day for normal business hours, 6a-5p. They will remain open until the striper bite slows, estimating the 2nd week in December.
NOV 14
Tom just got back from Long Island with the freshest bunker, the only bunker, he could purchase on the east coast. To be quite honest, I think he wanted to hang out with some old fishing buddies and found a great excuse! Of course, we have live eels, green crab, Tom's magic hermit crabs, and spot. According to weather reports, it's gonna be 70o and cloudy but NO wind and NO rain!
The stripers were out there thick before the storm, they should still be there. If we're not busy, Tom's going out tomorrow-he'll gie a report.
Nov 08 WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT weekending 110709
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports he is finally getting hermits on a steady basis and should have them for the next month or so. Everyone who has tried these hermits and given a report is astonished at how unbelievably well they are at producing tog. The only negative report they’ve received is how to hook them. Tog take them so fast; if you are going to use them, you need lightning-fast reaction. With the NE blows, the bunker was pushed out of the bay and has been nearly impossible to obtain as of this writing. He’s traveling to get fresh bunker. After 2 days, it gets frozen for crab bait and he obtains more. Fresh bunker, eels, and spot seem to be the baits the rockfish/stripers are after. A few reports were received while trolling stretches. Tom suggests calling ahead if you’d like large quantities of bunker; they will have it bagged and ready to go when you arrive. Tog fishing has been fabulous, weights are running 3 lbs and greater. The hot spots for stripers have been 60’ Slough, Blake’s Channel, Brown Shoal, and Brandywine. Tom was busy filleting fish for nearly 3 hours on Saturday. If you looking for striper/rockfish action, the time is now. See their latest catches at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com
Jerry Shrock fished the Brown Shoal on Sunday, Nov 01 and boated a 23.8 lb striper on a bucktail. Capt. Ed Meeds, a charter boat captain, who docks his boat here at Slaughter Beach, had a party of 3 on Tuesday. Clarence Murphy came ashore with his limit on stripers and the boat brought in a total of 5. Frank Phillips landed a 38” striper and lost one at Brown Shoal. Wednesday was a busy day for Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle as they issued 3 citation stripers and weighed in some beautiful fish. Josh Shupe boated a citation 21.2 lb striper with 20” girth from Brandywine in 36’ water on live spot. John Guizetti, Jim Kossek, and Steve Quinn were fishing 60’ Slough and each came ashore with a striper, 15.6 lb, 19.7 lb, and 12.6 lb respectively. Thomas Strange weighed in a 25.9 lb striper with a 23.5” girth from Brandywine. Scott O’Hara weighed in a citation striper from Site #4 weighing 22.0 lbs with a 21” girth. Tom Kennedy, Dale Bradley, and Bill Tucker each boated a striper; the first at Brandywine while trolling stretches before moving to the rips at Brown Shoal where they landed the other two. Tom took Judy, Dawn Donovan and Shawn McCue togging where Dawn was high hook with 3 keepers. Tom showed ‘em how it was done; landing 2 tog within 4 minutes! Capt. Ed Meeds had a party on board Wednesday. Fishing Brandywine while soaking eels, they came ashore with 4 stripers. Kenny Blakely weighed in a citation 25.7 lb striper using live spot while fishing near the 8’s. Chris Gibbons, fishing from the surf at 3 R’s watched as blues and flounder were being caught. Using a Hopkins spoon where the bluefish were seen breaking the surface, he hooked into a short and lost 2 in the surf. A 22” and 24” flounder were brought ashore using mullet rigs. Gene Heyman boated a citation 8.47 lb tog while fishing Site #7 using green crab. He and Jim Hoff reported steady action for an hour and a half. John Carr, Dave Wellington, Bruce and Ben Smith came ashore late with their limit on tog from Site #4 while using green crabs and switching to hermits when the tog became finicky. Tim and Brian Coleman were joined by Dave Bauerle for some striper action. While chunking bunker they each landed a striper with Tim being high hook with a citation 23.9 lb with a 23” girth. They also put 12 tog in the box from Site #4. Capt Ed Meeds, fishing Brandywine using live eels boated an 18.8 lb striper while Kenny Watts boated a 14.8 lb, and Clarence Murphy landed an 18.3 lb. Ernie Stone fished the rips at Brown Shoal using live spot when he landed a 19 ½” flounder. Capt. Ed Meeds is available for parties of 6 maximum. Capt Ed has been a licensed captain for 35 years and is available 7 days a week and will be tog and striper fishing from now thru the end of the season. Rates are 300.00 for bottom fishing and 350.00 for tog fishing. Ed can be reached by calling (302) 349-4989 or (302) 245-7446.
NOV 04 STRIPERS, STRIPERS, STRIPERS
Stripers came in today from Site #4, Brandywine, and the Brown Shoal. Scott O'Hara weighed in a 22.0 lb citation and Josh Shupe weighed in a 21.2 lb citation striper from Brandywine. Josh was fishing in 36' water using live spot Thomas Strange also had a 25.9 lb citation from Brandywine. The day was beautiful and the waters were fairly calm. Tom Kennedy, Dale Bradley, and Bill Tucker came ashore with 3 stripers in the box; one from Brandywine and 2 from the rips at Brown Shoal trolling stretches. I went togging today with Judy, Shawn, his wife Dawn, and Mark Lillquist. Dawn boated 3, I only landed 2, and Judy got skunked along with Mark-if you don't count the oyster crackers. John Guizzetti weighed in a 15.6 lb striper, Jim Kossek weighed in a 19.0 lb striper, and Steve Quinn weiged in a 12.6 lb striper from 60' Slough. And YES, once again, Tom came through with fresh bunker!
NOV 03
I've got the hermits! For those who have tried this bait, you know how great they are! An easy meal, a hermit out of its shell will entice ANY tog!
Nov 01 WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT weekending 103109
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the rock are out there thick!
Bunker has been extremely hard to obtain but Tom traveled out of state to locate fresh bunker for his customers, says he’ll travel to Alaska if he has to, to ensure his customers have fresh bunker. Some of your best striper fishing occurs when seas are rough, small craft warnings this time of year are an almost daily occurrence. If you have a 20’+ boat with winds under 15mph, with caution and safety foremost - the bay is still fishable and productive. Keep your life vests accessible or wear them and as always, maintain your safety equipment in top condition. For those who own smaller vessels or do not wish to operate in less than perfect weather, give Capt Dave Russell a call. He’s an excellent captain who takes pride in helping you put fish in the box. You can reach Capt. Dave of Miss Shyanne by calling(302) 335-FISH (3474)
Tog seems to be averaging 4+ lbs. Tom hasn’t had any throwbacks, except for females which is his personal choice to release so future generations can continue to enjoy the pleasures of fishing as we now have. He encourages fellow anglers to do the same.
On Sunday, Tom and Pat Morini fished Brandywine with great success, coming in with 2 shy of their limit on tog. Pat put a citation tog in the box weighing 9.2 lbs with an 18” girth. Pat also hooked into and boated a citation striper from Brandywine using ½ a green crab on a 2 hook drop loop bottom tog rig while tog fishing. The striper weighed 28.26 lbs with a 22 ¾” girth. On Thursday, Tom fished with Henry Boyd and Art Meding. They fished for tog at Brandywine and Site#6, coming ashore with 3 shy of their limit. On Friday, they were on the bay again; Art came ashore with a 7.125 lb citation tog with a 16 ¾” girth and they caught their limit from Site #6. On Saturday, Oct 31st, Ron Ranger, fishing from the shore off Conquest Rd hooked into a 32” striper. Ron reported the fish was skinny, REAL skinny; he could barely fillet. If you’ve stopped fishing for the season, give Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle a call to schedule winterization and/or shrink wrapping. Their prices are very competitive; they will beat any competitors’ pricing. You can see their latest catches and read the most up-to-date DE Bay fishing reports at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com. Tom’s got something up his sleeve for all of you drum fisherman coming this Spring! Send him an email and he might give up more information.

OCTOBER 30
Henry Boyd, Art Meding and I went out yesterday and crushed 'em again. We were reading stripers EVERYWHERE but I forgot to bring eels and spot. We have fresh bunker coming in daily, our green crabs are lively swimming in our tanks. Get off your butt and get fishing! Plan your trip, call ahead and we'll have your bunker bagged and waiting for you!
OCTOBER 26
I can't get any bunker from my local guys so I went to MD. I've made arrangements to meet the boats at the dock so I'll be carrying fresh bunker every day so it'll never be more than 2 days old.
OCTOBER 25

Pat and I planned to hit Brandywine Light for tog about 11a. With the wind no one was going out; the few that went out early returned wet and cold. I do some of my best fishing in this weather and I don’t get wet! I wanted to limit out on tog then the Brown, trolling stretches. If we didn’t score I brought eels and spot to drift the rip at the Brown. With the NE wind and temperature drop I had a great feeling about the rip and rock. We were crushing large tog, 2 from our limit when Pat says, “Get the net.” I saw his line go straight out and up and said, “Pat, take your time, I think you have a rock.” UNREAL. A 28 lb citation on a tog rig with 1/2 a green crab. Got our limit of tog with Pat landing his first citation at 9 lb 3 oz and a citation 28 lb rock. Hell of a day on the bay! Ran out of light before the Brown plan.
October 25 Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 102409
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the tog bite is as hot as can be. Stripers were turning on as this was being written. The recent NE winds have pushed bunker out of the bay; they’re hard to come by but with the striper bite turning on he will be going out of state to make sure he’s got a fresh supply.
Mark McGuire came ashore on the 21st with 20-25 croaker from in front of Brandywine Shoal, 2 flounder, and reporting only 1 skate. Dick Feltman did it again! He and a couple of buddies fished Site #6, coming in with their limit on tog. Freddy Snoots and Bill Moore fished the Mohawk with Freddy landing a citation 7.03 lb tog with a 15 ¾” girth and coming in with 6. Father and son, Capt. Butch and Franny Jones were reading stripers by the thousands but were fishing for tog. They found ‘em at Site #6 with Franny landing his 1st tog at 6.41 lbs. The pair boated a total of 6 tog and 2 nice sea bass. Mike and Brian Logue came ashore with 4 tog and 3 sea bass from Site #7. Capt. Bob Sanderson of Some Guy hit the bay with Toby Miller, Jerry, and Harvey Troyer looking for some tog action. They were successful, coming in with their limit. Capt Eddie Reeder, aboard his vessel, Hot Line, and Brian Dotterer also came in with their limit on tog. Bill Campbell and Adam Mitchell joined Capt Phil Howard aboard Murphy’s Law on Saturday, braving winds and rough seas. Just as the bite turned on, they came ashore due to the rough water conditions but not before putting 1 tog in the box.
Shawn’s getting busy winterizing and shrink wrapping for those who have ended their fishing for the season. Call to schedule your appt today. Keep informed with their fishing reports by visiting www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com
October 24
Bill Campbell and First Mate Adam Mitchell joined Capt Phil Howard aboard Murphy's Law as they braved the winds and rough seas early this morning. The trio was in a small 16-17' boat and had to come ashore just as the bite turned on with only one tog in the box. These guys are proof that there's a difference between guys that fish and being a fisherman!
October 22
Capt. Eddie Reeder, fishing aboard his vessel, Hot Line and Brian Dotterer came in with their limit on tog. Capt. Bob Sanderson's Some Guy crew; Toby Miller, Jerry and Harvey Troyer came ashore with their limit on tog, stopping in to give Tom a big, "Thank you", they went where he told them and tore 'em up!
October 21
Capt. Dick Feltman, along with Capt. John Jackson, of the Tog Master and a buddy did it again! They came in with their limit on tog from Site #6. Freddy Snoots and Bill Moore fished the Mohawk for tog and came ashore with 6 of 'em. Bill Reid and Jesse Shupe fished the Outer Wall and Bill landed a citation striper. His pic is on our Home Page. Mark McGuire came ashore with 20-25 croakers and 2 flounder from Brown Shoal. Father and son, Buddy and Franny Jones, came ashore with 6 tog and 2 sea bass from Site #6. Franny came ashore with his 1st tog and the pair reported reading stripers/rockfish by the thousands!
October 18
With tog as hot as could be last week, I'm glad I got out Mon and Tues for some excellent togging. The timing of my hernia surgery was perfect considering there has not been a fishable day since Tues! I can't wait for the winds to die down; the rock should be feeding non-stop. After a NE blow, I like using clams-NE winds and tides seem to churn them up and make them an easy meal. I will be out ASAP with stretches, spot, eels, jigs, and spoons. If you're planning a trip, either follow my report or the weather forecast. Get down here, weather permitting, I know they're here and ready to feed!
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 101709
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports with the recent NE blows, stripers should be feeding heavily and the tog bite came on strong last week. Weather permitting, GET OUT AND FISH!
On Sunday, October 11, John Jackson, the Tog Master, and a friend, came in with their limit of tog from Site #6 and a big trigger fish. Mike and Shannon Babcock fished Site #7 with great success. Shannon caught her 1st tog, 3.46 lbs and the father/daughter team came ashore with one flounder, one blue, two sea bass, and two tog. Capt. Tom headed out with Shawn McCue and Henry Boyd to Brandywine on Monday and the trio came ashore with their limit of tog. Shawn boated his first citation tog at 7 lbs 6 oz with a 15 ½” girth. One Tues, Tom went out again with Shawn and Pat Morini and they came ashore with 27 tog, one nice porgy and two sea bass from 14’ Light and Site #6. Pat was high hook of the day with his biggest tog to date, just shy of citation at 6 lbs 13 oz.
Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle is stocking live spot, green crab, eels, fresh bunker, and limited live sand fleas, and hermits. Read the latest striper/rockfish and tog updates and view the latest pics at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com

October 13
Went out again today, Pat, Shawn, and I and it was rough, rough seas. The wind was blowing like hell but we crushed 'em again! We could barely stand to bait our hooks on my 21' boat but we came ashore with 3 shy of our limit. Pat caught his biggest tog ever and it was the heaviest of the day at 6.85 lbs, just shy of a citation. All were in the 5+ lb range. This morning I learned the citation tog Shawn caught yesterday was his first citation tog ever. 27 tog, 1 porgy, and 1 sea bass-a great day fishing and my last one for a while. Tomorrow I go in for a hernia operation. Last night's dinner was stuffed tog with claw meat, tonight's was stuffed with backfin and damn both ways were EXCELLENT!
October 12
My friend Pat Morini and I went togging yesterday, got out late, slack tide, and caught a couple of sea bass. The bite was turning on but we were losing daylight so we came ashore. Headed out today around noon and WE DESTROYED 'EM! Shawn McCue, my marine mechanic, Henry Boyd, and I left today around noon to Brandywine. Green crabs were their choice bait, the tog had no interest in the sand fleas but when the bite slowed down we pulled out the hermits and it was on again. We came in with our limit and released the same number of females. Yeah, the winds were blowing a bit but we were too busy reeling 'em in!
October 11 Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 101009
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the weeks’ weather prevented most anglers from leaving the shore. A few reports of rock being caught have come in, you can read literally thousands of stripers but they just can’t be enticed to bite. As of this writing, with a couple more cool nights, it’ll be right, the water temp should be perfect.
Guy Sterlicchi, fishing off Fowler Beach, caught white perch last weekend. Cole Hutchison put a 23” flounder in the box from the Brown Shoal. John Jackson, the Tog Master, and a buddy, spent an hour fishing reef site Sunday morning. The pair came ashore with their limit of tog and one trigger fish, the biggest trigger Tom has seen all year.
Call to schedule an appointment for shrink wrap and/or winterization services. They’re offering a 10% discount until October 31st. They will beat any competitors’ pricing!
You can see John’s catch and read their up-to-date fishing reports at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com
October 11

The tog are here! John Jackson, The Tog Master, and his buddy limited out on tog in about an hour. They came in with tog up to 11 lbs while fishing the reef sites using green crabs. They boated one trigger which is the biggest trigger I've seen all year. Thanks John, for the great report, nice pic, and for the 3 tog you gave us! As this is being written, I am waiting on my buddy Pat; we're going fishing! Hopefully, I will have more pics later in the day!
October 08
We just had 1100 live spot and green crabs arrive this morning and our tanks are up and running. Fresh bunker has been coming in daily. The only report I have to give is a few sea bass and triggers. I heard that Frenchy, from Bowers, who has a hook and line license, brought in 56 lbs of tog from 14’ Light. I think it was a fluke because our water temps need to drop a few more degrees before the bite will really turn on and the warm weather forecast for tomorrow isn’t going to help. Everyone who’s gone out has marked, literally 1000’s of stripers but no one has been able to entice them. I have yet to see when a spot will not entice a striper. The reason spot are such great striper bait is because they are like lollipops. Pick up a live spot and hold onto it; there’s NO WAY to get pricked. Stripers are lazy predators and with spot, they don’t even have to take the effort to turn the fish around to swallow, same thing goes for eels.
Any day now, it’s gonna turn on-time to get the lines wet and see what happens!
The flounder bite has been off and on with the action coming from in and around the Brown Shoal and Anchorage area. For some reason, the reef sites just aren't happening.
My magic tog bait, the hermits are coming in daily but not in large numbers. I hope once my supplier starts targetting them for me, they'll be as plentiful as last year. Everyone who has tried them knows, when the tog shut down or are being finicky, a hermit is a sure bet to get another tog in the box
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 100309
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports current water temps are 68 degrees. By next week, the tog and stripers should be ready to bite. Anglers are catching decent sea bass and small tog from the reef sites with a few triggerfish, porgy, and small croaker being thrown into the box. Flounder are being caught in and around the Brown Shoal. Perch are also running in the Mispillion River. Brett Ammon fished Site #6 on Sunday, coming ashore with several 15” croaker and 6 sea bass in the 1-2 lb range. Tom is carrying live spot and green crab for the fall season. For the latest catches visit them on the web at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 092609
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports over the last 2 weeks there were only 3 fishable days; the winds have kept anglers on shore. Tom received a report from Joe Austin who, along with Vernon Wallace went out on Tuesday fishing aboard the Shore Thing and reported catching a lot of flounder, almost all throwbacks with a mix of 18-20” blues on Gulp! minnows with a strip of squid in and around the Brown Shoal in 10-14’ water. Tom went offshore with Captain Eddie Reeder, his son Dustin, and Mark Lillquist; catching 1 mahi and 2 false albacore. The water was beautiful; nice weed line but the tuna and mahi weren’t cooperating.
Tom wants to remind everyone that tog reopens on Tuesday, Sept 29th and if the wind cooperates, he thinks the tog bite will be strong at the reef sites, Brandywine, the Haystacks, Mohawk, and the Wall.
Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle’s Flounder Tournament ended on Sep 22nd with Bob Bryant, Jr. winning $1,000.00 for a 9.69 lb flat. Toby Miller took 2nd place for $500.00 with 8.40 lbs, and Ronald Riland placed 3rd for $250.00 with 7.75 lbs. Joe Walker placed 4th and won a Standard Horizon floating Marine Transceiver. Bob Jones placed 5th and won a medium/heavy St Croix rod. Florentino Garcia placed 6th and won a Penn 1 pc graphite Model SW655 Sidewinder rod. Mike Logue placed 7th and won a $100.00 Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle gift certificate. Royden Peters placed 8th and won an inflatable life saving vest. Chris “Itchy” Huk placed 9th and won a rod/reel combo. Terry Troutman placed 10th and Dale Brown, who placed 11th each won a 1 year subscription to The Fisherman. Capt. Stuart Welch placed 12th and Gene Heyman, who placed 13th each won a 6 month subscription to The Fisherman. Prizes continued to be donated after the start of the tournament which allowed for additional prizes while not necessarily descending in value. Tom would like to give a special thanks to all who participated in their non-profit Fight a Flounder for Cancer Tournament. John Chickadel of EP Sales, Getty Browning of St Croix, Dave Ptak, Capt. Dave Russell of Russell’s Charters, and The Fisherman are also extended a big “Thank You” for their generous donations toward the success of their tournament.
It’s not too early to schedule winterization and/or shrink wrap services. They will beat any competitor’s pricing and are offering an early bird, 10% discount on their already low prices until October 15th.

Capt. Eddie Reeder, his son Dustin, Mark Lillquist, and I went offshore Thursday during the day. We got a late start due to trailer problems; we smoked a bearing. After a 3-4 hour delay, we decided a late trip was better than a cancel. The weather and wind conditions were great, the water was blue and clear and the weed lines were long and nice. The mahi and tuna just didn't seem to cooperate. We had 3 hookups and landed a total of 2 false albacore and a mahi mahi. For a late start, I had a great trip and want to give a special "Thanks" to Eddy and Dustin for the invitation. Great people, great weather, and blue water-what more could a man ask for?

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports flounder are still being caught in good numbers. Tom would like to thank all who participated in this years’ tournament in their fight against cancer.
On the 14th, Steven Flint had 3 keeper flats while fishing between Site #6 and #7 using squid and minnows; the largest weighing 6.08 lbs, the remaining two were 18 ½ and 20”. Steven also had snapper blues in the mix. Jerry Lightcap had 6 keepers ranging from 18 ½ to 20 ½” while also fishing between Site #6 and #7 using squid and minnow. Randy had 2 keepers from site #6 on the outgoing tide with 15 throwbacks. During slack tide he caught 1 sea bass and sand sharks. Tom Brennan and wife fished from G Buoy to the Mohawk on Tues and Wed with great success. The pair boxed a total of 9 fat flats, all near 20” and 6 blues during the 2 days. They reported there was no action from Site #7 and Site #6 produced mostly skates and dogs. The pair was using live minnows and 4” Gulp! chartreuse mullet. Check out their “bounty” on their website in the Fishing Report page. Carl and Bob had 5 keepers with 15-20 throwbacks while fishing Brown Shoal. Scott Powell and Lloyd had 7 keeper flounder while fishing the edge of Brown Shoal using squid and minnow with a white mylar Cedar Creek top & bottom rig. The pair reported 30 throwbacks and the keepers ranged from 19 ½ to 22”. Dale Short had 2 keeper flats, 19 ½ and 21 ½” whiled fishing around Site #6 and reporting 10-12 throwbacks. Leon Drawbauch fished Brandywine using squid and minnow, coming ashore with a 6.19 flounder with a 25” length and one 15” croaker. Guy Dunlap, Ryan Eaton, Randy Eaton, Jesse Baublitz, and Charlene Robinson fished Brown Shoal and F Buoy on Saturday. Ryan was high hook of the day with 2 flats in the box and the group hooked into a mix of croaker, sea bass, and a sea robin.

Last weekend of the tournament and the flounder are out there. I did receive an email, along with a cool pic and I've pasted it below. Time to get out there and bang a doormat!
Hi Tom,
Tom here. I haven't been up to see you in a while because I haven't been out much lately but I was reading your latest fishing report. Me and the wife got out on Mon. 9-15 and Tue. 9-16. Monday was the better day, We handled 36 fish but only kept 6 fat 20" fluke and 3 bluefish. On Tuesday we handled 27 fish with 3 nice keeper fluke and 3 more bluefish. The fluke were biting short and mouthing the bait. I had to backfeed line in order to hook em. We lost two nice fluke right at the boat with tight lines. They simply weren't hooked but rather, mouthing the bait. The live minnows seemed to be working better than the 4" mullet gulps but we got a few on chartreuse gulps too. "G" to the Mohawk seemed to be producing fluke while site 7 was dead and site 6 was producing mainly skates and dogfish. Here is a picture of our catch.

Weekly fisherman report will be in tomorrow, hopefully I'll have more to give but this is all I have for now. I promised myself I was going fishing all this week but the weather prevented me from going out along with every other semi-sane person. With the NE blows being as strong as they were until late last night, I thought the water would be so dirty and churned up, even with weather as perfect as today, the possibility of catching fish would be next to zero. Ran into 2 different boats at the docks coming in and believe me, if there were three boats out all day, that was the most. Anyway, out of 3 guys they had 9 keepers and 2 guys had 7 keepers. The other boat had 3 people but they must of thought I was a jerk and didn't want to talk to me. Wouldn’t give me any direct info, the most I got from them was “structure” and “shoals” and all I saw were flounder. As I said, I would have been out today if I had thought there was a possibility of catching after the way the NE blew all week. It's late, I'm going to bed and yes, I am going fishing tomorrow, after minnowing. If there’s anything to report, Judy will add it in by late afternoon; otherwise, hopefully I’ll be giving a daily report this week since I plan, rain or shine, with the exception on NE winds over 15, I’m going fishing!

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports this has to be one of the best flounder fishing summers he can remember for a long time. Monday-Thursday, most anglers were unable to get out due to the heavy NE winds. All that changed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; the flounder coming in were all in the 3-8 lb range. The flounder are nice and thick and very aggressive. Their fight to save a life flounder tournament standings have not changed. There are 2 weeks remaining in the tournament and the odds of beating the current standings are excellent. Get out and take advantage of the excellent flounder bite and put yourself on the board! Bruce and George Summers, fishing aboard their vessel, Summer’s Time, came in after fishing Site #6 with 3 fat flounder, 24, 21, and 18 ½” along with some nice keeper sea bass and reporting ½ dozen throwback flounder. Capt. Joe and Itchy Huk, fishing with Cody Scott caught a total of 12 flounder with 4 keepers up to 5.27 lbs while making long drifts fishing in and around Site #6. Capt. Joe is also a contender in the Fisherman’s Dream Boat Challenge. His son, Itchy is also currently holding onto 9th place in their annual flounder tournament. Capt. Tom Bowden, an excellent flounder fisherman, came in light with only 2 keeper fluke, one at 23” and one at 18 ½”, and releasing 10 shorts from Site #6 and Site #7. 14 year old Micah topped his elders by being the high hook by boating a 23” flattie and two 20” along with 6 blues, using squid and minnow. Fishing F Buoy on the incoming tide aboard the Shirley J, using DE Bay sandwich, Joe Brandel had 6 throwbacks while Chris Mench hooked and boated a nice fat citation fluke weighing 7.23 lbs with a length of 28 ¼”. The trio also boated some small sharks and 1 blue. Capt. Brad Watts, fising from his vessel, Hook Um, had 2 keeper flounder and 7 throwbacks while fishing in 48’ water W of F Buoy. Capt. Chris Brian Trumbull, on his last 2 trips on the bay, reported catching in excess of 50 flounder with only 6 keepers, 3 of which were in the 4-6 lb range. He had 44 total the previous day with 5 keepers and ran into a school of blues, keeping 5 and hooking into approximately 20 skate and sand shark. Toby Miller, who is currently in 2nd place in their tournament, fishing with Capt Bob Sandeson, Jerry and Paul Troyer, claiming to have a slow day, caught a total of 7 fat flats up to 23 ¼” and 3 trigger fish from Site #7. Before coming ashore they stopped at the Beach Ball, catching 2 trout up to 13 ½ “. Shannon Marshall came in with a nice thick flounder weighing 6.2 lbs caught at Site #5. Fishing in and around the Beach Ball he also came ashore with 2 blues and 1 keeper sea bass out of 12. Capt. Joe Krupa, who didn’t do so well his last 4 bay trips, asked Tom for a few pointers and came ashore with 2 keeper flounder and reporting 2 throwbacks; good job! Richard and Rob Ulmer came in Sunday morning with 2 nice stripers, one at 39 ½” and one at 30” while drifting eel. They also had 5 beautiful trout, 24-26” while using spot at Brandywine. The Wahoo Crew came in with a 20” flat and reporting 6 throwback flats with a mix of blowfish and 40 sea bass with only one keeper.
Tom wishes to remind everyone that striper and tog season is just around the corner; gear up and be prepared and the flounder are not only fat but aggressive and plentiful.
If you’re thinking of winterizing your vessel, their early bird special will not be matched, Find your best price and they will beat it by 10%.

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports their new marine repair business is up and running; Shawn has been busy getting folks back in the water. Everyone fishing the bay is coming in with a different variety of fish, the bay is bountiful, the bay is happening.
On Tuesday, Keith and Kollin Beckfeld were fishing Flounder Alley and reported 3 keeper flats, 2 blues, and 1 croaker. Capt. Bob Sanderson, Toby and Herman Miller and Samuel Troyer fished Site #7, coming in with 10 flats and 1 trigger and reporting 30 throwbacks. On Thursday, Tom and Judy headed to Site #7 where Tom caught 1 keeper flat, losing 2 big ones, and had several throwbacks. Judy caught a 14” sea bass before they headed to the Mohawk. Tom was searching for brown cows but there was too much chop in the water. No brown cows but lots of small sea bass and blues provided Judy action. Romy Perpetua and Dr Camilo Gopez came ashore with approximately 50 croaker in the 12”+ range while fishing SE of the Beach Ball. Capt. Phil Nicholson, Rich Meyers, and John Wilkins came ashore with 5 keeper flats. Mike Tucker and Chris “Itchy” Huk were drifting Site #6 and Site #7 on Friday, putting 6 flats and nine 16” blues in the box. Capt. John and Linda Kahn of Kimmechar, (which stands for Kimberly, Megan, and Charlene), were accompanied by Pat Dooling for a day on the bay. They fished Site #7 for flounder where Pat boated a citation weighing 7.29 lb with a 23 ½” girth. Linda boated a 23” flat before they headed to the SE side of the Beach Ball where they caught over 30 croakers. Capt. Father and son, Butch and Frank Jones, put 6 flats in the box while fishing Site #7 using white and mullet 3 0z Spro bucktails. The pair reported lots of throwbacks, most of which were less than 1” shy of going in the box. Young John Wilkerson, whose family is spending their summer at Cedar Creek caught their 400th croaker of the season – the count is cumulative, not the 400th in the box. Capt. Henry Miller, Joe Byler, Jacob Miller, and Shawn Downs had 7 keepers from Site #7. Capt Bob Sanderson of Some Guy, Toby Miller, Jerry Troyer, and Paul Troyer had their limit from Site #7.
Paul Troyer was their weekly drawing tournament winner. See their latest catches and read their updated fishing reports at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com. |

Check this out: 14 Trout at Brandywine the write up is on the front page.

SLAUGHTER BEACH
Last week and this weeks fishing report together due to computer problems.
At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports that August and up to 2 weeks in Sept or later are the time to explore fish that aren’t in the bay normally. We’re seeing more and more tropical fish either lost or finding temporary housing during this time slot. A few weeks ago, Tom caught a citation king mackerel from Site #7. 2 Weeks ago Tom and Pat went out in search of cobia checking buoys and fishing site #7 for about an hour and put in 3 flounder in the box. Then traveled checking all the other buoys in the bay at 14 foot light and brandy wine not finding any cobia. He decided to go to the Mohawk to try to catch some trigger fish. We only hooked up with small sea bass when Pat spotted the brown cows and fins above the wreck. Tom tossed the ell to the cobia and after several attempts had one take it. His line was running short and had no choice but to set the hook and didn’t hook the fish or catch him. But there definitely out there at this time of year you just have to go out and search for them.
On Sunday, Mike and Brian Logue headed to 14’ Light, didn’t do much but Mike came ashore with a 3.8 lb flat. Capt Tim Townes of the On Target, Rocky Quinn, Chris Payne, and Jack Townes were fishing 90 miles off Cape May, trolling in and around lobster traps when they hooked into a 40” dophin fish/mahi mahi. Stormy skies were looming overhead so they ended the trip early and headed for shore. Maurice Costello, Chris Jones, Larry Woods, and Pete Donato had a great time on the bay catching croakers. Kathy and Earl Kunkle fished Site #6, catching upwards of 35 flats with 6-8 keepers, keeping five, all 21-22”. The pair also caught 1 triggerfish and 12 small sea bass. Lynn, Mason, and Joe fished Site #7 . Reports off Big Stone were 4 shark over 50 lbs on incoming tide using squid. On Tuesday, Tom and Shawn McCue headed to Site #7 after closing the store. 3 flats were in the box when Tom felt the temperature suddenly drop 10 degrees. A nasty T-storm rolled in and the water was boiling, sizzling from the lightning strikes. Water was coming in over the bow, stern, and portside as the waves were crashing around them. Ronald and Donna Riland had 6 keepers in 2 hours from F & G Buoy. John Yoder came ashore with 5 keeper flats, 1 trigger, 2 sea bass, 5 blues, 1 spade, and 20 croakers while jigging at Site #7. Randy Ritz had 4 keepers, 18 1/2”- 24” while using squid and minnow at Site #6. Capt Bob Sanderson, Toby Miller, Vernon King, and Jerry Troyer fished Site #7, coming ashore with 1 shy of their flounder limit and a 13 ½” sea bass. Danny and Ralph Messick and Zandar Plaches fished Site #6 with 30 throwback flats and 11 keepers. Zan was high hook at Site #7 earlier in the week with several keeper flounder from Site #7. Alasha, Jerry, and grandfather Moe Lightcap fished the edge of Brown Shoal with Alasha boating their lone flounder and coming ashore with several croakers. Friday evening Tom and Shawn headed to Site #6, fishing for only 20 minutes before dusk with Shawn coming ashore with 1 keeper flat. On Saturday, Myron Edwards came ashore early with 1 keeper from Site #7 and reporting numerous throwbacks. On Saturday Henry, Bobby, and Karen Boyd fished the Mispillion River, coming in with white perch. Mel Wanger, Butch Hoffmaster, and Kevin Beachy fished Site #6 on the incoming tide using a combo of swimming 4” mullet and sliced squid to create a split tail; a different combo with nice results. The trio boated 5 keeper flats and reporting 25-30 throwbacks, 7 were real close to being keepers. They also put 2 blues and croakers in the box and reported 7 throwback sea bass. Mark and Don Lillquist fished the China Wreck, coming ashore with 8 trigger fish, 4 blues, and a few porgies.
Bob Bryant is still holding onto 1st place in their Annual Summer Flounder Tournament with 9.69 lbs. Donna Riland was their weekly drawing winner. Donna receives a Cedar Creek coffee mug and an assortment of rigs. Visit them on the web at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com for up to date fishing reports and recent catches.
On August 15th kayak fishing at its best in the cove outside our inlet. Frank Malinsky came in early and only had a little time to talk. To my surprise did beyond well catching a total of 24 flounder and releasing 20 between 17-19”. With the biggest being 22”. Check our website at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com under recent catches to view Franks’ catching. Tom would like to make all kayakers aware of the easy access and the large variety of fish that are right here out side our cove in our inlet. Jeff Martin came in with 1 flounder 8.89 pounds from site #7 using squid and also having two flounder at 19-20”. Aboard the boat find them and wine them. Joe Ebel and Captain Brian Bear south of site #4 had 1 flounder 21” and 4 blue from site #6 &7. Also caught 70 croakers and kept 4 from site #6 and #7. Tom Brennen fishing at site #6 had 3 flounders of 22”. He had 26 throw backs and caught 5 blues, 5 sand sharks using Chartreuse Gulp Swimming Mullet. There was a huge migration of atleast 100 skate like he has never seen before south of the 14’ Light. On August 16th Tony Zdrojewski was fishing at site #6 on “The Captain Chick’s Revenge” with his son and Captain Dave Mckelwey when he hooked and landed a 8.38lb flat flounder. The flounder was 29 1/2” ….a true doormate!!!!
Our non-profit save a life flounder tournament for cancer is still running and anybody can win. Our first place holder is still Bob Brian with a 9.69lb flounder. Anyone can still sign up before it ends on Sept 22nd. Our weekly drawing winner is Gene Heyman.

Sent a few guys up north near Cedar Bush for shark fishing last week and this is what they did...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy13LSCo4hw
I gotta tell you about a trip Shawn and I took Monday evening. I just had to get out and go fishing.......
Shawn and went out, we wanted to catch a couple flats then search for my cobia.
We banged 3 flats then suddenly I felt the temp. drop 10 degrees. Shortly thereafter, the storm was on us hard; lightning strikes were actually boiling the water around my boat, Shawn could hear the sizzling. Shawn put his lifejacket on and was sitting on the floor. Waves were coming over portside, starboard and the stern.. We made it in, obviously but I have never seen lightning that close to my boat... I am still on my mission to boat a cobia! |
 |
Aug 03 I just couldn't take it anymore....I finally left around 12:30 this afternoon, caught the slack and the incoming tide. Pat, who was with me when I caught the king mackerel, nailed this 9.72 lb fat flat with a 28" girth! Pat was upset because this is the biggest flounder he ever caught and he is in the tournament but he was fishing with me on my boat and everyone who goes with me knows beforehand that nothing counts if their in the tournament if you are with me on my vessel. Yeah, he was a little upset but he’ll get over it. We ended up with 1 shy of our limit and since I am the captain, I wanted to fish and relax. With me working like I do, doing short drifts over the different deployments in the reef sites is a lot of WORK! I wanted to fish and RELAX not fish and WORK. So I decided to ditch the flounder effort and go for DE Bay cobia. He thought I was crazy but I went from buoy to buoy, checking for brown milkers with fins. Didn't see any at F, G, and a few others so I figured it's such a calm day, "Let's go to the Mohawk and anchor, see if we can pull out some trout, triggers and spades”. We changed rigs and clammed up. We started catching sea bass, most being short, with a couple that were 14”. Pat said,“ Holy Sh**, look at those fins, must be a shark”. I put on my polarized sunglasses and said, “Son of a *****.” It was a brown cow; I KNOW they were cobia, 3 or 4 of them. I changed my rig, hooked on an eel, and cast several times. Then I saw the fins again and cast right towards them. Next thing I know, my Penn 965 was free spooling and all I wanted to do was let the cobia swallow the eel. I am not big on braid, I’m “old school” I guess, and I had 30 lb mono on and my spool was running real low. Went to set the hook; had him on for about 20 sec and my frigging eel came right out of him and all I know is that I have never caught a cobia out of the DE bay and I am gonna catch on of them SOB’s!!! Tomorrow, I am hunting for cobia; I’ll go from buoy to buoy from wreck to wreck…I’m gonna get one. Wish me luck! I’ll let ya know the outcome… if you don’t hear from me, it’s because I didn’t catch sh** |
JULY 31
Not many boats went out this week due to the prediction of storms and high winds however, this weekend is going to be perfect! Hot temps in the low 90’s are forecast with SW winds at 5-10. The fish are biting: triggerfish, spadefish, flounder, blues, croakers, and slot-size stripers. I think the winds and the tides will be mild enough to do short drifts over structures and bang some big flounder. |
July 27 SHORT UPDATE 2nd wave of croakers are in close to shore and they're running 1-3 lbs. Flounder fishing is still good to excellent with shorts in the mix. I will update in a couple of days if the weather allows fishing. Like today, it was hot and perfect winds just about all day. There’s always a chance of rain when the temps are as high as they are. We didn’t see any rain today. There was a 30% chance which means there’s a 70% chance that it’s not! The wind did kick up in the late afternoon but the entire day provided for good fishing. Tom |

July 21 It's late, I didn't get a chance to get out today but I'm anxious. The DE Bay is happening; the fishing is superb, they're catching 'em. Hopefully I'll be out first thing tomorrow. I'll be tightening the sea bass, flounder, trout, spades and triggers |
WEEKLY FISHERMAN REPORT weekending 07/18/09At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the DE Bay is abundant with life. Drifting over or anchoring above the structure and wreck sites are most productive; anglers are limiting out on flats. The reef sites are also housing trigger, spades, blues, croakers, and sea bass. Pink and green skirts tipped with squid seem to be producing the most flounder. Stripers are being picked up off Broadkill Slough. In shore shark fishing for anglers targeting the big beasts are also giving a good fight. However, Tom wants to remind those anglers who wish to target the big beasts that shark fishing is dangerous and anglers should be educated. Tom will be more than happy to offer his assistance to anyone who asks. On Sunday, Wally Walinsky had 1 keeper flounder from Site #3. Michael Rew had 1 keeper from Site #6 with a mix of blues and croakers. Bill Sellers and John Robinette fished the Beach Ball when Bill hooked into 26” Spanish mackerel. The pair had a mix of small sea bass, blues and croaker with one throwback flounder. Capt Ryan Baer of Baer Necessity and Joe Ebel fished Site #5, 6, and 7, coming in with 1 keeper flounder, kept 10 croaker and 15 blues. When the wind and tides are right and you can concentrate on rolling over the small deployments of reef site structures, the hook ups are unbelievable. 4 and 5 anglers on one boat are coming in with their limits. Triggerfish, spadefish, sheepshead, flounder, spot, trout, and croaker are all out in the bay thick and anglers are crushing them. Jul 08, 2009 On Monday Pat, John, and I went fishing; we left the dock at 3:10p. We caught the incoming tide and was heading back at 8:15p with our limit of flounder. Pat had wanted a shark so we headed to Big Stone. Pat scored and we headed in. I was hoping for a repeat the next day; even though the wind was kicking. We left the dock at 5:30p but all we got was beat up. Tom |
Jul 06, 2009 Trout Report Donny Downes and Mel Ensey came ashore with 7 beautiful trout and a sheepshead from Brandywine, fishing the ebb while the tide was running strong. Fishing has been fabulous, everything has turned on. Flounder fishing is great with everyone hooking up as the wind and tides have been on our side. Sea bass are here, croakers are abundant with catches of 60+. Spades and triggers are at the reef sites adn wrecks. Fresh or frozen sand fleas and clams are their bait of choice. Shark fishing is excellent, just 2 miles out and you will have blue water action in your 20' vessel. Shark fishing is dangerous, it is not for everyone. SAFETY is the main priority; stop in and I will put you on the fish.

Jun 03 2009 Me and a friend went fishing today, put a couple flats in the box at the Red and Green Can and the Crossovers and released a buncha shorts. I've had my fill of looking at drum this season but I've never read so many drum in my life; we read at least 1000 of them, all over the bay. A storm kicked up so we headed in but there were drum every damn place we went! |
 |
Jun 02, 09 Attention: Everyone who wants to get in on the drum action while they're here thick and heavy, you need to reserve clams and get out by this weekend. By next week they'll be thinning out. I was up til 10:30 cleaning drum, up to 79 lbs. I got extra surfs for this weekend, call and reserve NOW The drum may still be here thick by next weekend but I think they'll be thinning by next Wed or Trs |

Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 05/30/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the flounder bite has turned on, much like it did Memorial Day weekend 2 years ago; with everyone catching around F & G Buoy. During tide changes anglers are scoring keeper flats. Meeting current length requirements doesn’t seem to be a problem, the length is there, the flats coming in are averaging 19-24” but the weights are lower. It’s still early in the season but for the lengths they’re seeing, those fish should be fatter and heavier. They’re starting to feed hard and aggressively, mainly in the deeper water in and around the Anchorage area - D, F, G Buoy, and the Crossovers. 60’ of water at G Buoy, between 14 and 27’ at the Crossovers. Black Drum fishing is at its best, with almost everyone putting at least one in the box. Some anglers are trying to tighten their drag to horse these monsters in; black drum are huge fish caught on light tackle, you have to take your time bringing them to the boat. Anyone looking to conquer a DE Bay black drum has to take their time to fight the fish. Tom was weighing, cleaning, and filleting fish until the early morning hours on Sunday. The Coral Beds produced citation catches with Lee Collins leading off the week with a 60.5 lb, 48 ½” long, with a 32 ½” girth while fishing aboard his vessel Miss Pearl. Gary Olinchak boated a citation 58.1 lb, with a 29” girth that was 48” long while fishing aboard his vessel, the Shanghai. Kevin Lohmeyer boated a 58.1 lb, 47 3/4” long, with a 32 ½” girth while fishing with brothers Kyle and Kameron aboard the Triple Trouble. John Ferenbach boated a 51.1 lb with a 31 ½” girth and was 46 ½” long while fishing with Steve Jacono. Ronald Bezzard boated a 64.4 lb that was 48 ½” long with a 37 ½” girth while fishing. Whitney Nash boated a 50.6 lb with a 33” girth and 47 ½” long. Brent Spencer boated a 68 lb with a 34 ¾” girth that measured 49 ½” long. The Pin Top produced 2 citation catches on Saturday, the 30th. David Biles boated a 75.7 lb with a 38 ½” girth that was 51 ½” long while fishing aboard the Diana Lee with John Hinkel. John Smith boated a 68.5 lb that was 51 ¼” long with a 36 ½” girth while fishing with the Joachimowski family, Jaime, Joseph Sr. and Joseph Jr. Bill Sr., Bill Jr., and Mark Stover put a drum in the box as did John Robinette and Bill Sellers. Bill Turpak Sr., Bill Tirpak Jr., and Mark Stover all had a part of the action at the Coral Beds, Bill Jr hooked it on dad’s rod so dad reeled it in and Mark netted it. The Luca Boys, Steve Warren, Travis Mick, Bobby Wright and Ryan McDonald fished together with Bobby boating a 46.9 lb and 22.2 lb drum. Florentino Garcia spent the weekend seeking flounder and was not disappointed. He boated 7 keepers, 1 while fishing between G and F Buoy and 6 from D Buoy. Stan Smith of the Cindy Sue II and Chris Foreacre had 6 keepers while fishing G Buoy using only minnows. John Stubitz, John Carr, and Ben Smith, fishing aboard the Know It each came in with their limit up to 27” using live spot. Danny Lemmon had 1 keeper flat. Barry Sheetz of the Jen Jess boated 3 out of 4 hookups while fishing with Kevin Walter who boated 2 out of 8 with the largest weighing 6.7 lbs, 27” long, with only a 21 ½” girth. Bob Sanderson of Some Guy fished with Jerry Troyer, Paul Troyer, and Toby Miller with the foursome bringing in 11 total, the largest weighing 6.3 lbs. The flounder are so aggressive, even the small ones are swallowing up to 6 and 7” spot! 4 and 6 oz. Spro bucktail jigs with a small piece of pork rind or squid attached seem to be one of the hottest baits for reef site fishing for the big, fat flats with the fish preferring yellow and green. Tom Bowden and son hit the bay Sunday morning, the 31st, after a quick passing storm and reporting a total of 9 flats from in and around G Buoy, giving Tom and Judy a beautiful flounder for dinner. Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 05/23/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom has been busy weighing and filleting black drum with the weekend producing heavy action from the Coral Beds. Tom offers this service to his customers free of charge, donations, while not necessary, are donated to the American Cancer Society. On Monday, they weighed in a 30.31 lb which was a Hall family effort; Taylor hooked it, Tim boated it, and Rebel netted it while fishing the Coral Beds. On Wednesday, their “Polar Kraft” guys hit the Coral Beds with the same success as last year. Capt Tony Anderson of the Duckin Knutz II boated a 29.3 lb, Greg Anderson boated a 20.9 lb, and Danny Finch boated a 17.9 lb. Dale Short hit the bay in search of flounder with action from the Anchorage, Site #6, and Site #7; no keepers, 3 throwbacks, coming up just ¼” shy. On the 21st, Capt. Rick Aument weighed in a citation drum weighing 53.2 lbs, with a 31 ½” girth, and 46 ¼” long. Rick was accompanied by Hayden Graver and Capt Ron Donawitz, whose vast knowledge of the DE Bay was impressive. The trio hooked 11, released 8 and brought 3 ashore. Capt. Mike Villarose of the Leslie Ann was joined by Gary Pokiopski Sr. and Jr for the day. They put in their time and waited out the drum. They started at Pin Top, making their way back to the Coral beds and found the action they were looking for. Gary weighed in a 51.1 lb citation with a 44” length, and a 32 ½” girth. Mike weighed in 46.6 lb that was 44” long, with a 30” girth. Dick Degnats also hooked into and released a 50+ lb drum from the Coral Beds in 14’ water. Troy Talley, fishing with his grandfather, Capt. Art Coleman III aboard the Knot Talkin’ landed a 3.77 lb, 22” flat. Alan Ogar weighed in a 56.1 lb drum from the Coral Beds that was 49 ¾” long with a 32.5” girth. Steve Stewart also hooked into and released 2 drum in the 20-30 lb range and a 50+ pound drum; Steve uses peeler crabs for drum fishing with much success. Not many people are aware peeler crab is excellent bait for drum. Captain Philip Roach boated a citation drum from the Coral Beds weighing 53.8 lbs, with a 33 ½” girth, that was 46 ¼” long. He was joined by Keith Conway and the pair started a 4:00p on the incoming tide, averaging one drum an hour with lots of sharks up to 4’ and back in by 8:00p with their citation catch. Mike Cathell boated a beautiful doormat weighing 10.8 lbs, with a 26 ½” girth, and 30 ½” long while fishing Site #5 using squid and minnow with a pink worm. Mike Dickerson and Matt Alexander each boated a drum, 37.8 lbs and 49.0 lbs and released a small pup. Capt Joe Huk of the Fish Huk II fished the Coral Beds in the evening with Sam Messina and son, Itchy. Itchy, hooked into 3 drum, one in the 60+ lb range and the other 2 in the 30-40 lb range and released them all. The trio released a total of 5 with Sam and Joe each bringing in a citation. Capt. Joe weighed in a whopping 76.7 lb with a 39 ½” girth, and 49 ½” long. Sam also weighed in a 59.6 lb citation fish with a 34’ girth, and 47” long. The bite was still producing heavy action when the trio came ashore. Sam, captain of his own vessel who does 99% of his fishing off-shore, commented the action that day on the bay aboard Joe Huk’s vessel was definitely in his “Top 10” fishing trips. Deep water action in skinny water! 12 year old Ryan Lloyd, fishing with his father and Uncle Glen Sechrist aboard the Captain A, boated a 5.4 flounder during the day. During the evening they headed to the Coral Beds where Ryan hooked into and reeled in a monster 72.9 lb with a 36 ½” girth that was 48 ¼” long without the assistance from the adults on board, except to bring the fish into the boat. Ryan fought for over an hour and won the battle. Ryan Lloyd and Itchy Huk are young accomplished anglers who both deserve recognition for their outstanding catches and kudos to Itchy for his commendable conservation efforts. On Saturday, Capt Rick Bortz and Justin Kemp fished the Coral Beds where Justin boated a 60.1 lb with a 36 ½” girth, and 46 ½” long. Dave Shuffelbottom landed a beautiful 46.7 lb striper while flounder fishing at the Crossover using squid and minnow during slack tide. After a 30 minute fight, the 49 ½” fish with a 28” girth was boated. Bob Espisito also boated a citation drum weighing 65.8 lbs with a 37” girth that was 48” long while fishing the Coral Beds with Capt. Jon Leister. The pair also reported, “lots of sharks”. Daniel Gold, Chris and Allen “Spike” Scolese, and Cody Burrows reported a mix of shark and skate with 1 throwback flounder before heading to the Coral Beds where Spike boated a 38 lb drum and Cody a 42 lb drum. Douglas and Florentino Garcia Jr., along with Donald Coffey came ashore with 9 keeper flats from D Buoy; the 2 biggest both weighed 6.6 lbs. Wanda Bowman, The Boss’ Daughter, and husband Duane were fishing aboard their vessel, The Fuss, with Wanda bringing home a 21” flat. Guy Sterlicchi fished Massey’s Landing, bringing in his limit in the 5.3-6.2 lb range. Capt. Doug, Mike, and Bob Knawby and Ed Soley fished the Coral Beds bringing in a 21.2 lb and releasing a 50+ lb. The weekends’ drum bite was hot and heavy; Tom was cleaning fish and Judy was weighing them in well into the nighttime hours. Tom wants to remind everyone, if you’re seeking DE bay monster drum, you have 7-10 days remaining for hot and heavy action. If you want guaranteed availability you need to reserve your clams no later than Wed as supply is very limited. Capt Dave Russell of Russell’s Charters, who docks his boat at J P’s Wharf was also busy this weekend putting his anglers on the fish. Last Friday, one trip brought ashore 18 flounder. Drum action was also productive with Dave; they had several break-offs and boated an 80 lb drum Friday night with most trips bringing in average weights between 25-40 lb. Trips run daily, mid-week trips are available on Wednesdays, no reservation required. Dave and his crew, aboard the Miss Shyanne will make the effort to help you put fish in the box. Give them a call at (302) 335-FISH(3474) or visit www.russellsfishing.com. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle’s 3rd Annual Summer Flounder Tournament begins Jun 1st. May 23, 2009 I recommended a restaurant to a friend over in Cape May, The Lobster House, and while he was there....I had him pick up some surf clams I located from there. It was a win/win situation - he got to wine and dine his lady friend and WE NOW HAVE CLAMS! Saw a lot of impressive catches these past few days. I'll give all the details tomorrow in my report but I do need to mention a young man named Ryan. Yesterday, he wrestled with a 72.9 lb drum, with no assistance at the rod and won the battle! Ryan also weighed in a 5.4 lb flounder. IMPRESSIVE! |

We had a lot of boats clam up and go out but not many were as successful as these guys. 2 thumbs up to Capt. Ron Donawitz who's an excellent old-time DE Bay fisherman with a vast amount of DE Bay knowledge. To my delight, he knew more about the DE Bay than most of us ever will. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to talk at any length, but the gentleman pictured to the right, not only knows his clams, he has the patience and the know how to take in the DE Bay drum. I was impressed with this skilled captain; he even gave me 2 thumbs up on my filetting skills. Capt. Ron Donawitz was aboard Capt Rick Aument's boat for the day along with Hayden Graver. The 3 of them hooked into 11 Slaughter Beach drum releasing all but 3. Capt. Rick boated this 53.2 lb citation drum, 46 1/4" long, with a 31 1/2" girth. Rick, the citation form you forgot is in the mail! |
The Polar Kraft Guys Do It Again!!! Take into consideration that we're talking about a 16' boat at the Coral Beds... These guys are young, maybe a little dumb, but weren't we all??? I know I was.... From left to right we have Danny Finch, Greg Anderson, and Tony Anderson. For the second year in a row, aboard the Duckin Knutz II, they do it again! Once again, after work, Judy and I just had to motor out and take a picture of these guys! |
Weekly Fisherman Report 05/16/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports drum fishing has been hot with a mix of rock coming in. The largest drum weighed in on Friday was 81.5 lbs. On Saturday, the weather was fine and drum were being “read” on everyone’s screen but the bite just didn’t happen. It wasn’t just with the drum, it seemed as if the DE Bay shut down. No fish until Capt. Neil Bupp of the Capella called at 7p saying he was coming in around 8p with drum. The bite only turned on after 5p with the boat coming in with one lone drum weighing 63.8 lbs. This weekend and next week will be the best drum fishing the season has to offer. Don’t forget to call by Tuesday to guarantee your surf clams, clam logs, and clam bellies. You won’t have to travel any further than the Coral Beds which is only 3.8 miles outside their inlet. Check out their website for recent and citation catches at www.cedarcreekbaitntackle.com. On Monday Capt. John Walter and sister Kristy fished for tog at Site #7 using green crabs on the outgoing tide and Kristy boated a 7.0 lb citation tog with a 17 ½” girth that was 21” long. They came ashore with a total of 4 tog. Bill Zimmerman also fished Site #7 and reported 4 tog but no keepers. On Tuesday, Eric Morrow fished the Coral Beds with clams and brought in a citation 37.1 lb striper that was 43” long with a 26 ½” girth. Tom and Pat Morini fished the Horseshoe area and came up empty; they were in the wrong place. Brian and Mike Logue had action one day and came up with nil the next. Friday night, Joe and Itchy Huk spent the greater part of the night drum fishing. They hooked 3 while fishing the Coral Beds with Joe bringing in a 62.5 lb citation drum that was 49 ½” long with a 38” girth. Itchy boated a 24.1 lb drum and they released one. Capt Neil Bupp had Zachary Lutz, Zach’s Uncle Nick Mavros, and Nick’s neighbor John Mann aboard the Capella for an evening of drum fishing at the Coral Beds. Zach boated their lone catch, a 63.8 lb drum with a 35” girth and 46” long. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle will kick off its 3rd Annual Non-Profit Summer Flounder Tournament at 6a on June 01. May 16 All week, the drum fishing was hot and heavy. I talked to Capt. Dave Russell at 5p yesterday and he was tearing 'em up. Opened this morning with 6 drum waiting for me to clean. For some reason, the bite just wasn't on today. I just got a call from Neil Bupp of the Capella at 7p saying he would be in around 8p tonight to weigh in some drum. The bite must have started late. I will have my weekly report in tomorrow. Tom |
Weekly Fisherman Report 05/09/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the drum are starting to show up at the Coral Beds and Broadkill Slough; 3 came out of the “beds” this weekend and until Friday, all of the action has been at the Horseshoe, Pin Top, and Tussy’s. The average weights have been 20-40 lbs. Now the Coral Beds have produced 3 in the 50-70 lb range. There was a full moon on the 9th and only 7 trailers in the parking lot; the weather forecast scared most boaters away, the evening produced a few storms but the day was beautiful. They had 2 19’ boats go to the Horseshoe. Almost all the drum were caught on bay and surf clams; however, 2 were caught using green crab. While Tom was preparing this report at 10p, he had a knock on the door; John Yoder had boated what everyone thought to be a citation drum; it was as close as it could get; 49.9 lbs, caught near Tussy Slough using surf clams on their first bite, their first hook up. The drum were thick, they could have hooked into more but a storm was brewing with lightning approaching; safety became their priority and they headed for shore. Drum are here and running strong; so gear up, Tom wants to see a new state record. Surf clams will be available for the weekend; to guarantee them, reserve in advance by Tuesday, no refunds. Otherwise, it’s first come, first served. Tidal white perch are also running strong; Henry Boyd reporting catches of 30+. Last Sunday, Paul Weckerly Sr and Jr came in with 2 drum from the Pin Top. James Abriola and the Gang fished The Wall and boated 5 keeper male tog on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. Capt. Mike Babcock of the Nauti Shannon, Brett Ammon, and Tom fished the Mohawk and came in with a total of 5, all between 5 and 6.5 lbs. Jim McCrossan and Jim Bryan were fishing their “secret striper spot” aboard the Foxy Lady and boated a 23.7 lb drum using clam. Capt. Stewart fished with Scott Reed and Jeff Gipe came in with their limit of tog from the Wall using green crab, average length 18”. Tom Roberts and Tom Grant fished Site #6 and had 5 keeper tog up to 5 lbs. Mike and Brian Logue spent their nighttime hours on Friday at the Coral Beds and boated 2 drum, 20” and 27” and reporting about 30 dogs. Ed Thomas and son Jason caught about 25 white perch using minnows while fishing Slaughter Creek/Fowler Beach. Capt. Sean Olson, Shane Olson, and Katie Turner fished the Horseshoe using bay clam. Each hooked into a drum, releasing one, with the trio coming in with a 22.3 lb and a 23.6 lb. DRUM, DRUM, DRUM May 03 Tom cleaned his first drum this morning at 6:30a. 2 more came in later, too late for this week's Fisherman publication. Paul Weckerly Sr. and Paul Weckerly Jr. fished the Pin Top and boated two drum, 222 and 25 lbs. Tom and Brett Ammon went fishing with Capt. Mike Babcock aboard the Nauti Shannon and the boat brought in 5 tog, in the 5-6 lb range from the Mohawk. |
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 05/02/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the few fishable days we had this week anglers had good to excellent tog fishing. The rockfish/stripers are out there; you can read them but they just can’t be enticed to feed. The bite seems to be moving south, a little further each day; the guys traveling up north to St. Augustine, the Elbow, Port Mahon, Woodland Beach, and St. Augustine have been crushing big cows in the 30-40 lb range. Black drum are here! The netters have reported excellent daily catches and at Cedar Creek they’ve had about a dozen people target them. John Miller and Mike Fultz came in early Sunday morning with 3 drum - 21 lb, 32 lb, and 36 lb. The two greenhorn drum fisherman did their part by showing Ivan Miller how to land drum. Ivan must have been in the wrong spot but Capt. John Miller gave him 2 thumbs up for being a top notch first mate. The drum bite is on! Surf clams are available in a limited supply. To help extend their “shelf life” Tom has dedicated (temporarily) his shedding tanks to house the live surf clam and their green crabs are also kept in tanks. Tom figures everyone deserves the freshest bait as possible for the best odds at a citation and/or state record fish. To guarantee your surf clams they must be paid for in advance, and must be reserved by Wednesday morning. They saw 2 more flats come in from the Brown Shoal. One weighed 6.38 lbs, caught on squid and minnow; the other 6.68 caught on clam. Don Morton came in with a 7.99 lb citation tog that was 23” long with an 18” girth while fishing aboard the Power Play with Capt. Kevin Geib and Sue Geib. Gary Olinchak and Jim Spedden fished the Mohawk wreck during both tides and caught 20 tog, releasing the females. Thanks! guys, for leaving fish for our children. Joe Austin fished the Brown Shoal and Brandywine on Monday; nothing to report but spiny dog. John Miller and Mike Fultz fished the Mohawk on Sat., May 02 and boated 5 tog. Michael Heinzman weighed in a 10.14 lb tog, girth 19”, and length 26 ¼” and Norman Hess weighed in an 8.76 lb tog that was 23 ½” long with an 18” girth while fishing with Capt. Joe Mowday aboard the Reel Crazy. Mike Lee also boated a citation tog weighing 7.67 lbs with an 18” girth and was 22 ½” long while fishing aboard the Seesick Emmy with Capt. Alfred Moser. White perch in Cedar Creek and Mispillion River has also improved. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle’s 3rd Annual Non-profit Summer Flounder Tournament begins Jun 01. Everyone who signs up receives a tee shirt, Cedar Creek rigs, Aqua-Clear rigs, and is invited to attend their now famous pig roast BBQ on Jul 11th. Several demonstrations including knot-tying, cast net throwing, and much more are scheduled. All of this and much more all included for your support in helping cancer research. Check out the live 5 minute video of a drum being hooked and landed in the Delaware Bay. Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 04/25/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports winds kicked up during the week after providing a great mix of rock, flats, tog, and a few drum during the previous weekend. By Friday, the winds subsided, anglers were reaping the bounty as the fish bite was on! Tog action was hot and anglers were reading stripers but they weren’t active or feeding much during the weekend. Fat flats were being boated at the Brown Shoal in the 6-7 lb range. 2 more puppy drum were caught on hook and line, coming from skinny water in and around the Bug Light. The 15-20 lb drum are nice but the 13 mile run isn’t. 1-2 more weeks and they will be here in full force. Right now, they’re arriving in small numbers, in 4-10 days, the goliath black drum will be here in full swing with the Coral Beds being thick and full of 60-90 pounders. Get ready for these monsters. If you’ve never fished for drum, stop by his store and he’ll tell you all you need to know. Tom’s fished for drum for 37 years; they’re only here for a few short weeks and Slaughter Beach is the place to be! Black drum should be a “must” for every angler to experience; from the call of the drum which you can hear under your vessel to the sound of the clicker picking up speed. The hook is set and the fight of a lifetime on light tackle is an experience you’ll never forget. Check the quality of your line, looking for frays; I think we will see a new state record black drum this year. Surf clams are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We can guarantee your surfs if you call in and order by Tuesday. General supply is limited and they go fast!!! Frank and Orry Sheets were fishing Site #7 on the 19th and had 1 keeper tog each and Orry had 2 throwbacks. Mike and Brian Logue came in with 3 tog. Joe and “Itchy” Huk had their limit of tog on the 25th. from Site #7. Capt Art Coleman III and Art IV and young Troy Talley of the Knot Talkin’ were joined by George Summers and the boat came in with their limit on tog. Jim Comegys and Randy Bilbrough fished Site #6 on Saturday and reported a strong bite, especially during tide change. The pair came in with their limit with Randy being the high hook with a beautiful tog weighing 10.18 lb, 24 ½” girth, and a 24 ¼” length caught on hermit crab pieces. Capt. Alfred Moser aboard Seesick Emmy/Pooh Bear were fishing Site #6 using green crab and came in with their limit. Don Marshall had a keeper 21” flat from Brown Shoal while making short drifts with squid and minnow. Tom Cressman and wife Ginger Cressman were seeking spiny dog action and were not disappointed. Ginger hooked into and released a 21” flat while using a piece of bunker. Jim Spedden and Gary Olinchak fished the Mohawk and came in with their limit and reported lots of misses. The striper action has been hot near DE City with stripers being boated in the 38-42” range. Capt Doug Taylor of the Jackpot spent the day fishing the #2 Can with brother Tommy and sister in law Patty Taylor, niece Mandy Black and her husband Dan. The boat brought in 4 total with Patty being the high hook with a 4.6 lb flat caught while drifting using bloodworms and bunker. Folks have begun signing up for their annual non-profit flounder tournament. This years’ event and the increased response from area businesses have provided more prizes and more opportunities for the folks who have joined them in their fight against cancer. T-shirts will be provided this year for all participants as well as a variety of hooks and baits for everyone. Their Pig Roast/BBQ is sure to be as big a hit as last years’ with the Mendenhall family providing the main course. Earl and Kathy Kunkle came in with their limit, 2 were citations, including a 7.96 pounder. The commercial netters just reported the BIG GUYS are here; earlier than usual. 60-80 lb drum are ready for the taking! Gear up and let’s go! |
April 19, 2009 Well, the beautiful weather of yesterday sure disappeared fast! We had a few boats go out, some made it past the jetty, some turned back. Frank and Orry Sheets and Ralph Davis came in with 2 tog and Orry had 2 throwbacks. Guy Sterlicchi came in this morning; yesterday evening he caught a 5.55 lb large mouth bass at Millsboro Pond. We received an email a few weeks ago through this website in refernce to our hermit crabs. Unfortunately, however it happened, there was neither an email address to reply to nor a phone number to call. We know the gentleman and would like to give him an answer. Please, email Tom at thomaslewes@verizon.net |
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 04/18/09 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the weather during the first 2 weeks in April kept most DE boaters landlocked due to high winds and cold, rainy days; had all of us wondering, “When is it(good fishing weather) going to start?” We got our answer on Friday, followed by a beautiful day on Saturday. Stripers up to 30 lbs were being taken on clams, bloodworms, and bunker. Saturday’s catch was caught while trolling the Brown Shoal, watching as a parade of 6-8 stripers were following a hooked fish right up to the boat. If you’re ever lucky enough to have this happen and he knows it’s tough not to get too excited – if you’re fishing with others on your boat, tell the net man to grab his rod and a small handful of bait. Loosen your drag a little, keeping the hooked fish and the “schoolies” close to the boat without spooking them. Toss a little chum, whatever you have and get everyone to throw out a line; chances are great everyone will hookup. Friday and Saturday they had 3 flounder come in, all over 6 lbs, all from in and around the rips at the Brown Shoal. These flats were fat and aggressively taking baits meant for stripers: mullet, cut spot, bloodworms, and clam. The guys targeting tog had great success. Randy Ritz started the action on Friday, bringing in their first fish of the season, coming in with his limit of tog from Site #7. Brian and Mike Logue also boated 2 tog in the 5 lb range. On Saturday, Capt. Art Coleman III and Art Coleman IV, fishing with Bob Evans and Weston Wloczewski aboard the Knot Talkin’ had their limit of tog within 45 min of dropping anchor at Site #7, up to 7 lbs and releasing the females(good job guys). Bob boated their lone striper while fishing the rips at the Brown Shoal. Until Saturday, all the striper action was further north, east of the elbow, Augustine Beach and Woodland Beach. The warmer weather brought in schools of striper and hopefully they’ll stay for a while. The Miss Ellie crew had their limit on tog using frozen hermits and frozen green crab. Capt. Shane Snyder of Fish Balz, Josh Kennedy, Craig Dorett, and Nate Belmonte came in with 3 tog and Nate landed a 27” flat weighing 6.23 lbs, measuring 27” long, with a 22’ girth on a 6” mullet while fishing for stripers at the Brown Shoal. Capt. Stan Smith of the Cindy Sue II and John Green also had their limit of tog from Site #7. Tom Egan and Eric King brought in their first drum of the season, weighing 20+ lbs while fishing in 15’ water SE of the Pin Top. This is a little early for hook and line. If Friday and Saturday were a taste of the upcoming season then we’re in for one great fishing summer!! Tom and Judy are hosting their 3rd annual non-profit summer flounder tournament. AARD-ALLTUF has joined them this year and each participant will receive a custom tournament tee shirt and assortment of tackle items. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. April 18, 2008 OK folks, gonna make this short and sweet. WOW, what a day! It's nearly 7p and Tom is still cleaning tog! Randy Ritz starting the action yesterday with his limit from Site #7. Today we saw our first striper and our first drum. Yesterday we saw our first flounder. Today, Capt Shane Snyder of Fish Balz spent the day fishing with Nate Belmonte, Josh Kennedy, and Craig Dorett. The boat came in with 3 tog from Site #7. Nate landed a 6.23 lb flat that was 27" long, with a girth of 22" from the Brown Shoal using a 6" frozen(from last year) mullet. Capt Art Coleman III of Knot Talkin' and Art IV spent the day fishing with Bob Evans and Weston Wloczewski. The foursome came in with their limit on tog and Bob Evans boated a striper. As they were netting the striper there were between 6 and 8 striper that were following it in. Maybe if they had their poles in the water they could have caught more. Tom Egan and Eric King came in with our first drum, weighing approximately 22 lbs. Capt. Stan Smith of the Cindy Sue II and John Green came with in their limit of tog from Site #7. Stan gave 2 thumbs up to our frozen hermits. Their awesome bait for tog, one of our customers refers to them as "Insta-Fish". Tomorrow's looking good and we're off to a great start! |
April 17, 2009 Me and a couple guys went out, took an 18 mile journey to the Bug Light. I'd heard reports of nice striper action. Needless to say, after the storm, the water was dirty. There were about 14 boats; a lot of birds on top of the water but no one including ourselves had any action. The main reports on striper are coming from up north. John Yoder went out near the Horseshoe, of the 4 boats in the vicinity, all came in with their limit, John boated 2 stripers 28" and 35". The commercial guys have been netting tons and tons of striper. There's no reason other than recent foul weather, we should be able to destroy 'em. According to the commercial guys, the bay is loaded with stripers. Early drum are starting to appear in their nets. The first report I have came in today. Mike McKinley reported lots of shark at the Brown Shoal and one fat keeper flat weighing 6.8 lbs. Capt Art Coleman, of Knot Talkin' spent the day fishing Site #7 with George and Bruce Summers with the boat bringing in 5 tog all 5+ lbs. Randy Ritz also fished Site #7 and came in with his limit of tog. We're stocking surf clams again; if you want to be guaranteed your surfs please, reserve them; payment in advance. Weekly deadline in Tues at 10a for Fri delivery. Live spot will become available in a couple of weeks. Our non-profit flounder tournament begins Jun 1st at 6a. Aqua-Clear, EP Sales, MESCO, and The Fisherman Publication will be joining us again this year. We're having custom tees designed for all participants provided by AARD-ALLTUF. We will have weekly and monthly prizes again this year and our Take the Family Fishing Day Pig Roast BBQ will be held on Jul 11 Tom |
April 06, 2009 Jersey anglers have been destroying stripers in the DE Bay on clams and eel. Most are 20+ pounds with the occasional 40+ lb milkers. Tom |
Weekly Fisherman Report weekending 04/04/09 Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle has re-opened for regular business hours, daily from 6a-5p. The commercial fisherman are reporting plenty of stripers in the bay but no word on any being caught on hook and line, though anglers have reported catches from Broadkill, including a few perch. Perch fishing is excellent there in the river. Saturday’s 40+mph winds kept those who were itching to go fishing on shore and Sunday’s winds were still in the 20-30mph range. Cedar Creek will begin stocking bloodworms, night crawlers, fresh bunker, and clams this week. Boat storage is available for both short and long term. Two RV spaces are available. One RV is for sale, comes complete with shed and fish cleaning station and they also offer 2 rental campers. Their annual flounder tournament kicks off Jun 1st at 6a and runs until Sep 22nd at 6p. The cost is $25.00 per angler prior to Jun 1st, $35.00 beginning Jun 1st. A mid-summer pig roast/BBQ is scheduled for all participants and their families on Jul 11th. Each angler receives a tournament tee shirt and various tackle products. Random drawings will be held weekly. 1st place earns $1,000.00, 2nd place earns $500.00, and 3rd place earns $250.00. Add’l prizes will be awarded for 4th – 8th place finishers and will be announced when finalized as contributions are still being tallied. April 02, 2009 Some great news! I've been talking to the commercial waterman and the bay is full of stripers! Now, are they taking bait???? We'll find out this weekend! I checked my book from last year and we tore 'em up chunking clams on April 5th after a small NE blow and on the 6th we were landing 'em while trolling Stretches and chunking bunker. So, gear up and give it a shot or wait for my first report. |
March 13, 2009 How is everyone? Suffering from cabin fever and are itchin' to go fishin'? We've had colder than normal temps this winter but Spring is just around the corner! Start thinking stripers and before too long Black Drum. Last years' drum season was phenomenal, we wrote over 100 citations! Last year, I had guys out there, Judy and I included who were crushing the drum, 20-30 pounders were just as common as 60-90 pounders. Judy and I brought a dozen to the rail during one trip! I am pretty confident, a future state record will be snapping off lines come May! We'll be carrying pint and quart containers of frozen clams. Live surf clam and DE Bay clam, are available by the bushel, 1/2 bushel, dozen or singles and my favorite, buckets of whole cleaned clam. NEW FISHING LICENSE REGULATIONS All anglers 16 years or older, resident and non-resident, who fish in DE waters are now required to have an FIN(Fisherman Information Network) number. For those of you who are exempt from purchasing a license, you STILL HAVE TO OBTAIN AN FIN NUMBER. For 2009, there is no charge for obtaining this number. You will need to write down your number and keep it with you while fishing in DE. You can apply online at http://www.delaware-fin.com/default.asp or you may call 800-432-9228. We will be opening the store beginning Mar 15th. Daily hours begin on April 01 from 6a-5p. Once again, we will be hosting our summer flounder tournament. This year marks our 3rd year for this event and our Take the Family Fishing Day and Tournament BBQ(prepared again by Dave Mendenhall and family) is scheduled for Sat. Jul 11th. |
